"Your Old Buddy Lappy" Busted For Slapping Woman

My original post was deleted because I accidentally posted an errant link...it looked like a personal attack with no merit. I apologized to the Radio Info TOS personnel...I was wrong. Not very good with a pc. Thanks for posting the proper link.

Well, I had no idea... And I'm sure that was not your intent, RR911... In fact, perhaps my choice of thread title may have been a little too out there...

That's why they call him "Slap Happy Lappy". A company, especially a Radio Station, which serves the Public Interest and is in the Public Eye, should not employ a person who has committed a crime, especially the assault of a woman. It tarnishes the image of the station, & doesn't speak very highly of the management &, in this case, the owner - Cox Radio, Inc.

OK... I wasn't going to go there with "slap happy" (especially in the thread title)... That aside, the way you word your statement, "a company... should not employ a person who has committed a crime" - which I agree with - may give the impression that there's been a previous history, which we are (or at least I am) unaware of...

Unless I misread the story, he allegedly committed a crime. Nothing has been proven in a court of law, so he's innocent until proven guilty. Cox would have a heck of a lawsuit on their hands if they got rid of him now...

But, um... Thanks for jumping to conclusions. ::)

billy..i understand what you are saying..about serving the public interest but there have been many many successful personalites that have criminal backgrounds. John Rowland is the most recent example. Lets wait for all the facts to come out before passing judgment. While there is never any justification for hitting a woman, domestic disputes have a way of being way overblown. Arrest does not mean conviction.

Agreed...Jumping to conclusions is always bad. There's a pattern here...A couple years ago he was caught drunk driving. It got very little press other than his / my hometown. Now this. When I listen to the live Wigout's, it's clear that he's "faced" much of the time. Wiggy is worse at times. I was at a recent live Wigout and both of them looked terrible. It may be funny to the rabid crowd, but it's dangerous. Especially watching them drive out of the parking lot. You don't need to be a genius to see that this guy is in a downward spiral and needs some help. Most companies offer assistance.

a quote from "Billy Paul" on another message board:

Any company, especially a Radio Station, who serves the Public Interest and is in the Public eye, should not employ a person who has committed a crime such as assault, especially on a female. It tarnishes the image of the station itself, & doesn't speak very highly of the management or Cox Radio, Inc.

How could this guy have almost quoted the exact message that amfmRadio1 posted on this board?
hmmm..interesting.

This was a 3rd degree assault. Misdemeanor. Could be something as simple as grabbing someones arm, yet people here and on other boards have him painted as Ike Turner. Dangerous game to play folks.

I also found it interesting that on every website where the story was posted Pam Landry felt it necessary to comment at the bottom of each story. An absolute classless move in my opinion.

Doesn't she work for that "Patch" website as a contributor? I wonder if she is the reason this story wound up so many places so quickly. She's obviously still bitter over her PLR departure of over two years ago.

WDRC/WCCC/WTICs' Sebastian & Pete Rose get fired from Radio & Baseball, respectively, for gambling, but, Lapatino, arrested for the assault of a female, is still employed & on the air.

Something is drastically wrong with this picture.

Have they considered a replacement?

Do they think he can last forever?

Do they think the ratings will drop when he leaves?

Paul - Keep in mind his court date isn't until late Aug. If a company let someone go without due process...they would be open to legal action. I've seen the police report. The woman involved didn't press charges. This whole thing may dissolve.

Exactly. Unless some wanna-be hotshot lawyer wants to make a quick name for himself by gaming the legal process to take down a local celebrity, it certainly looks like this will disappear by the end of the month.
