What, Starbucks, no "audio version of Myspace" on your fantasy radio dial? ;)

And actually... wouldn't there need to be about 17 HD subchannels for "audio version of Facebook"?

My Space is going the way of AOL dial -up. I was allocating the FM Band under an analog perspective. Not a bad idea though.

By Jr. High, or Middle School as it's often referred to today, most people are familiar with capitalization, sentence structure, contractions and the difference between 'to' and 'too.'

The format on the FM band in the Phila. market is boring compared to other, smaller markets. We dont need a strictly alternative music format; YSP, MMR can 'dip' some of this music into their format. Do we need PEN 2x dip their sports format on 97.5. CBS needs kill the oldies format on 98.1.
What are their latest ratings? Can someone bring back smooth jazz!! If the Detroit and other markets way down the latter than Phila. can institute this format what is Clear Channel, Beasley among others waiting for to bring in this format. How many R & B, Hip-Hop stations geared to the Afro-American male does this market need. What would be revolutionary is that Penn's radio station; XPN move further into the dial somewhere between 100-105. Thus, more listeners would have a choice of music, ala alternative music.

If an alternative format is "not needed," (probably because you don't like rock music after 1975) then why does it rate so high? ;D

I personally don't care for WOGL today, as my fantasy radio dial showed, but in their defense, they are #3 in Philly. So someone in Philly must like their format. The few times I've tried to listen, I noticed plenty of spots, so they've got lots of listeners, hopefully in the demo the advertisers want. They also have plenty of spots, which would imply the advertisers desire to reach the audience listening there, so why would CBS change that format? Only a Donald Trump, the business "mastermind" who declared bankruptcy 4 times, I believe, would do that.

I think most of us here realize that our fantasy radio dials are just that, a dream or fantasy. In the real business world of radio today, probably quite a few of my format selections would go belly up as they'd only attract an older demo like me, which the advertisers do not want, which is why it's called a fantasy lineup. So the many formats on Philly radio today, I'd never listen to, unfortunately are the exact formats that reach the younger demo the advertisers want, and that's why they are the real lineup and mine is a fantasy. Cool marches on, and that parade has passed me by. So even though I totally dislike WOGL's format, I totally understand why they're airing it, it makes them money.

As far as music on mainstream radio, things petered out after about 1982 actually. (There was plenty of great rock made in the 80s, but it didn't get played on most radio stations.)

There is really so little going on with the so-called 'alternative' format that it could be combined with a broader selection of rock to improve the variety factor. Except that 'alternative' listeners don't appear to value variety, hence the relative success of the sound-alike format presentation. I guess 'alternative' can be looked at as the next generation of classic rock, without the stylistic variations.
