Your thought on this matter...

Hi everyone. I'm guessing you are either involved in webcasting or just love the hell out of listening to webradio if you are on this board...either way thanks for being a part of the "industry". I put that in quotes mainly because i'm not sure its an industry yet...and frankly my grammer sucks as well as my spelling so dont hurt yourself looking for all my mistakes...I know there are plenty. So whats your thoughts on where webcasting is going now that Sound Exchange has agreed to the new royalties for webcasters? Which kind of webcaster do you think will have the biggest impact on the "industry"...Large Commercial casters (Pandora, Slacker...etc) or small webcasters, or do you think its going to fail...any thoughts would be good. I myself am a small commercial webcaster and have found a great deal of success being a very hyper-localized broadcaster for my community an would love to hear other peoples stories about how they are running their stations. Thanks for your input.

It's important to note that deal with SoundExchange only affects those Large Commercial webcasters. Those who are mom and pop operations using licensing services like LIVE365, SWCast and LoudCity were not part of that agreement. They are still hashing out their future with the CRB/SoundExchange. Given that mom & pop's don't have large revenue to suck dry nor the large audiences, they should get a better deal, or at least affordable to about 50% of the users of those services.

I think we are going to be OK. If you guys are not getting
Kurt Hanson's newsletter - get it. Great stuff.

I am very local and non-commercial. I hope to find a few
"promotions" that will give me the chance to generate
enough to pay for my project. I have stayed away fom the
spots in the stream just becuse I honestly don't have the
time to do what it takes to be accountable to Soundexchange.
If my growth requires it then I'll cross that bridge.

Back to local: at this point I am staying away from ITunes
radio simply because I want my resources to be available
locally. I have listeners all over the globe and I'm glad
that the listen, but it's not an imperative that I have
audience outside of Oklahoma City.

My method for using social network marketing has helped
grow my station on a local basis. If anyone needs any
help let me know. BTW - i would love to have you guys
become friends with my station on Facebook. just search
Radio OKC.
