Your Thoughts On CBS's "The Talk"

With just one week under its belt, CBS's "The Talk" seems to be milking it for what it's worth and that is being a cheap imitation of ABC's "The View" and with it being like a tabloid show. I haven't watched it but by previews I've come to this conclusion.

Examples:

Talking about Christine Brinkley like she hasn't been in an interview on TV in years.

Using "My Good Friend" like it was a big deal.

The 7 year old pole dancer.

5 women talking about nothing.

How about making over Sara Gilbert and devoting a show to that? Her partner is much prettier than she is.

And my thinking:

They replaced As The World Turns for this? Bring that show back or replace it with a game show immediately!!!

To get ratings, they should have Ann Coulter on, and then two of the hosts get upset and walk off the set!!!! Have Mrs. Moonves say, This is not what this show is about, we should be able to sit down and have a normal discussion without somethng like this happening.

Is CBS still running announcements promoting Julie Chen on The Early Show? If so, why? She hasn't been on that show (from what I've seen of it) in quite a while now. Seems like Ms. Chen is on everything on CBS except The Early Show. If Chen were still on Early, wouldn't they have used her in place of Maggie Rodriguez during Ms. Rodriguez' maternity leave rather than Erica Hill?

Maybe CBS could swap The Talk with The Price is Right for its time slot. In my local affiliates, The View airs at the same time when TPiR comes on. So, The View and The Talk would be competing in that time slot if the switchover were to happen. Then the recent changes at TPiR would have made more sense since it'll be airing in the afternoon instead of late morning.

That wouldn't be a bad idea but The Price Is Right has been at 11am since I could remember. In my market Lets Make A Deal was moved from 3pm to 10pm which makes sense putting game shows together. Do any other markets place Lets Make A Deal at 10am?

WFSB-TV channel 3 of Hartford switched that show with Better Connecticut several months ago. They wanted to have the show with their segments included air before Oprah

Talk shows that lead into another talk show work best when they're "friends".
Just before one ends, someone from the next talk show could come onto the current program to discuss what's coming up...(along with chatting about the current topic on the current program)

Thoroughly bad idea.

They don't need to compete with the View head on--they do better having it run elsewhere so people who might be so inclined can watch both.

Now on the west coast is "The Talk" Live or prerecorded?

They don't do two live shows a day.

Re where "Let's Make A Deal" is on in the morning, I've
counted approximately 40 stations that carry it at 9 or
10 AM; I've also noticed that "Deal" has moved from 9 AM
to 2 PM in Los Angeles, and Rachael Ray is back in the slot
she occupied (9 AM) when KCBS carried "Guiding Light" at 2.

The two closest CBS affiliates to me that carry "Deal" in
the morning are WTVR Richmond and WBTW Florence, SC
(10 AM). I especially like WBTW's schedule from 10 AM-5 PM:

10 AM Let's Make A Deal
11 AM Price Is Right
12 N News 13 At Noon
12:30 Young And The Restless
1:30 Bold And The Beautiful
2 PM The Talk
3 PM Ellen
4 PM Oprah

I'd like to see more CBS affiliates use this model (plug in your own
syndicated shows, local news, or whatever after 3).

I've got a better idea. why not replace the cast with that of a celebrity Judge. what daytime tv needs is more courtroom shows. We don't have enough of them. We've got one station that doesn't have a courtroom show. We need one on every channel. You can never have enough courtroom shows (said the consultant)

WFSB Channel 3 in Hartford, CT also has the same schedule as WBTW News 13. Only difference is the 3pm show everything else is the same, Oprah at 4pm right before local news at 5pm. Along with a Noon newscast at 12pm.

"A cheap imitation of The View" - tell us something we don't know... Of course, if you're not endeared by the program, chances are you're not in the target demographic.

Believe it or not, we've got two: neither WFMY (CBS) nor WXII (NBC) has a courtroom show; likewise, in Raleigh/Durham
neither WRAL (CBS) nor WTVD (ABC) has one. And I can think of one other market, Atlanta, where more than one station
does not have a courtroom show: WSB (ABC) and WXIA (NBC).

Imitation, yes. Cheap, no. No everybody talking at once. Not people interrupting each other or cutting off guests' answers (or other panelists' questions). No insults. No walk-outs. The women are civil, thoughtful. It's not cat fight like Baba Wawa's show, nor like a scene from a bad community theater production of The Women. The women doing interviews actually seem interested in hearing what the guest has to say. And they are not as blatant in booking guests or doing segments as product placement. (What's the difference between The View and an infomercial? Not much.)

And I've been infatuated with Sara Gilbert for a long time. (Sara, Leonard should have held onto you and forgotten Penny.)

***shrugs*** It works for whom ever watches it. I'm not a fair of that homewrecker, Julie Chen, so they can keep it. I'll still watch the View...

I work at a CBS affiliate and the net came out with numbers showing ratings improved that time slot. Its an OK show...I'm a big Leah Remini fan. However, it is a pale, more boring imitation of The View, which is hard to match. If all you can offer is a weaker version of a competitor's show, why bother doing it at all?

Because it still makes money?

Both shows air at different times. So they aren't really going head to head. CBS wouldn't move Price is Right from 11am. As for The Talk I do like the set over The Views set.
