I wonder why nobody asked Susan Boyle? After all she had a beautiful singing voice (at least in my opinion).

Because she's British, not American. She'd probably sing the anthem respectfully, but she has no connection to it or our country. That would be like an American singing "God Save The Queen" at a British soccer match (assuming they sing it before sporting events there). Wouldn't work.

Susan Boyle is Scottish! and you are correct, you wouldnt have an American singing 'God Save the Queen' in the UK.. Yes, the national anthem is usually sung before large sporting events..

Cant comment on the big game, there was a Top Gear marathon on BBC America.. !

They shoved Glee down our throats all night long and had a cast member from that show sing "America The Beautiful".
I didn't know that's who was doing it. I was out of the room when the song was introduced. I thought maybe they decided not to do "The Star-Spangled Banner".

As for the show, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Okay, I didn't like the music, but that's usually true. But the plot was great. One of the best they ever did. I wondered how they could get a football audience to stay tuned but I guess they found a way.

Nearly everybody me or my brother spoke with during the game all agreed that Christina Aguilera totally botched the National Anthem
Really? I thought it was just me. I left the room once she started because most people who are on the pop charts these days wreck that song. Whitney Houston included.

and that the halftime show (which I didn't record) with the Black Eyed Peas was just plain awful.
Again, I thought that was just me. I didn't hear too much as it was the one break long enough for me to be guaranteed of getting a lot accomplished.

Memo to the NFL:
1991 Super Bowl...National Anthem...Whitney Houston. Replay it each year.
No, even she can't do that song justice. I can't stand her yowling--except on "Saving All My Love for You", which wasn't really yowling. Now "I Will Always Love You", which only Dolly Parton should do--THAT'S yowling.

Sorry about that. I thought she was from England.

A little OT on this.......

She's from the UK, but not England. To a lot of people here, they are one in the same - but that's incorrect. The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland includes England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. But the latter four are each considered nations upon themselves even though the sovereign state is the UK. Each has it's own team in the international soccer leagues, for example. Scots and Welshmen are very touchy about what you call them as they're NOT English.

Very strange system, and it's very easy for Americans to get confused by it. Just be keep in mind that last paragraph if you're ever in a pub in Edinburgh or Cardiff...... ;)

This was one of the worst games I've ever watched. Not one of the worst Stupor Bowls, one of the worst football games. These two teams are supposed to be the league's finest yet they continually made mistakes and dumb calls. The Steelers QB couldn't throw a pass and the Packers couldn't catch one. The Steelers calling a 52-yard field goal. Etc and etc.

The Steelers couldn't do anything right in the first half and the Packers couldn't do anything right in the second.

The Pack looked like crap and they have only to thank the Steelers for giving them the game.

Typical Fox fiasco presentation. Way over the top and Buck and Aikman really need to take a breath once in awhile. We don't need Spanish-language type commentary on the obvious.

Fox live sports shows are becoming very difficult to watch.

Another way to avoid forgetting the lyrics: record in advance, and sing on the field with the mic off. It happens more than people realize.

Get a decent military or marching band to do the Star Spangled Banner. I'm sick of these showboating pop "stars" making the anthem sound like a bad American Idol audition. You do not squeak, moan, grunt, add excessive runs, melisma, bad pronuciation, diction and take breaths in the middle of words an phrases. And never ever ever showboat. Its not only improper, it is incredibly bad taste. I can forgive missed lyrics, I've done it myself many times, it happens to all singers from time to time. But the showboating and adding nonsense ad-libs to an anthem, sacred song or classical piece in unforgivable. If you're going to sing like that, go to American Idol or Showtime at the apollo. But seriously, If she had pulled a stunt like that on American Idol, I'm not ever sure she would have made it to Hollywood. It was just plain bad and very tacky. shame on you Christina Agulerra.

Or military choir. They could learn a lesson from The Kentucky Derby or The Preakness. Forget The Belmont Stakes. They've already gone down that road and can't make up their minds what song to do anyway.

I personally think that FOX should never have a Super Bowl again. There were a lot of things wrong with it in my opinion:

--widescreening
--the score box on the top left/right
--Aikman/Buck
--Black Eyed Peas

among other things (and the game itself wasn't that great either).

By comparison, I saw NBC's presentation of SBXVII from 1/30/83 via the Redskins Greatest Games DVD release, and that was a Super Bowl done right, not only in terms of the game, but also presentation-wise. The lack of excessive graphics and scorebox helped immensely, as did the booth team of Enberg/Olsen, but what really set it apart was NBC's Proud N with the 11-feathered peacock; the current peacock doesn't even come close.

You realize the NFL doesn't award the rights based on the factors you identified.

Of course! How silly of me. Those were just the things that I found wrong with it.
