ok..So I thought i'd start a positive thread here and throw a few accolades seeing sometimes this board can get negative..you can work in radio, be a groupie, whatever,,here is my top 5..feel free to add your own (your list may cross over from other boards)..feel free to just name or elaborate why:

1. Jordan Rich- He kicks ass..he worked with me one on one for 5 weeks working on voiceovers..he returns calls/emails within a day..he is a knowledgeable guy
2. Marc Clark- The first guy that ever got me interested in radio when i was 14...even though I didn't work for him, he would ask for my tapes last year and critique them..he still calls my cell even though i was one of HIS groupies back in the day
3. Jackson Blue- for calling me a year ago and saying "your website kicks ass..you sound good--will you do a few shifts at the Rose?"
4. Christine Fox- She kicks butt on air...and she's the first person above me at a station to literally sit down and critique my tape..how awkward..it's not that often i take a chic's advice, but she is the bomb!
5. J.J. Wright-Ok, needless to say I think he has THE best voice in boston radio..i almost fell out of my chair when I took a voiceover class in Boston back in 2000..and the guy that sat next to me said "hello, I'm J.J. Wright"..It taught me that no matter how kick ass you may be in radio, it doesn't mean that you're good at all aspects of radio....this guy is truly a legend!

1)Paula Street
identifiable voice; real pro, always uptempo and fun.

2)Doug Mascott on WNSH
Simply because he and Carmelita have been doing it forever,
he has a big heart, and he cares about the music.
You won't find a finer human being - he plays local
music for the sheer love of it, is well versed in it,
and has a good staff like Kid Fadoozala and Raccoon Radio.

3)Audrey Constant - an alum of WNSH
Like Ms. Street, uptempo, gives out good vibes over the airwaves, very professional.

4)Cha Chi - WBCN
Deserves a lot of credit for innovation and hard work.
Another unsung hero. Had a TV show for awhile too.
Should have a shift on the station.

5)Hutch - WZLX
Now producing David Lee Roth? The man deserves it - total pro,
great on air personality, extremely intelligent.

Bubbling Under

6)Julie Devereaux at WROR
7)Kimberley Jaeger at WZLX
8)JJ Wright
9)Carmelita
10)Barry Scott

Alright..here goes my list: In no particular order...

1. Billy Costa - Does a great job on the morning show on KISS 108 with Matty. He runs a great top 30 countdown and also provides great entertainment news at the same time.

2. Matty Seagal - He's very funny and it usually provides great entertainment.

3. Jackson Blue - Really funny. Has great fan interaction with callers and has a great chat room during his show and actually talks to everyone during it.

4. Kerry Collins - Although in the Providence, RI market, he too has great fan interaction with his Celebrity gossip with the Celebrity Profile, his fan interaction with call ins indluding the Hot Topic and guest DJ.

5. J-Buff - Not only did he graduate from the same high school as me a year after me, he is probably one of the greatest young talents in radio. He has great communication skills and a strong work ethic.

And don't worry Erica Kay...you fit in there as well..You make FUN 107 what it is! And you provide good suggestions and insight into the radio business!

no order:

Lovell Dyett... what a voice and he's a gentleman on the air

Steve LaVeille... the perfect host to end the day with and when I have trouble sleeping, relax me...

Nancy Nangeroni and Gordene McKenzie (Gender Talk on WMBR)... one of the most unique shows on Boston/Cambridge radio--going on hiatus, hopefully temporarily

Malcolm Alter.. he was at Allston-Brighton Free Radio doing a jazz show and I don't think I've ever met a classier individual during my tenure at the station

Gil Santos... he may have lost a little off the "fastball" but I still find comfort in hearing him call a game and do sports on WBZ

YES ! Jordan Rich

"1. Jordan Rich- He kicks ass..he worked with me one on one for 5 weeks working on voiceovers..he returns calls/emails within a day..he is a knowledgeable guy."

Would have to agree that he is one of the good guys in the business. Don't know anyone who knows him who doesn't like him.
How could they. Jordan Rich gives more back to the community than he ever takes. Children's Hospital is just one as is Road To Responsibility an agency that works with mentally challenged adults.

i'd like to add that jordan is a curry college alumni....just thought it should be noted

Julie Deveraux, Greater Media/WROR FM .. Nice lady, has caried a lot of water for her employer without complaining.

The late David Brudnoy.. the name speaks for itself.

Ed Perry WATD 95.9 Marshfield MA. Runs a great 3000 watt FM that serves the C.O.L. above and beyond expectations.

Grady Moates, Loud and Clean is his company and he keeps many radio stations on the air. Brilliant engineer.

Amanda "The Brockton Biscuit" Albanese, WZLX Radio... not only is she cute, but she is very nice in person.

If you asked listeners (the ones that have no connection to the radio industry) who their Favorite Radio Personalities are....I bet a lot of the names that have been mentioned here wouldn't even make it on their list...except maybe for Matty. In fact, they're probably not even familiar with most of the names mentioned in this thread.

The list of names that really count is from the average Boston listener...when it's all said and done.

Now if we could just see a message board from people that aren't "in the business" It would be interesting to read what they would have to say...and who they love listening too!

I'm not in the business so I will add my two cents

1) Erin O'Malley - She always makes you feel in a good mood. She never ever seems to be having a bad day even though I'm sure she has many

2) Dan Justin - I am not sure what station he is with now but I miss his pepperoni pizza comment

3) Karen Blake - I grew up hearing that the red light is on and the madam is in

4) John Lander - he doesn't get much respect from people but he really knows his stuff and he remembers everything

5) Dale Dorman - I just love that voice!

1. Larry Glick (Class Act)

2. Matty Segal (Genuinely Funny)

3. Dale Dorman (Legendary Voice)

4. Tom Bergeron (Multi Talented)

5. Howard Stern (Revolutionized Radio)

oh my god...Larry Glick...254-5678

i used to think that guy was a god..i have a clip of me when i was 10 years old on his show (december 31st, 1986)...asking him to play something and to send me a an autographed picture...never did get it in the mail...every once in a blue moon when i answser the request line and someone asks how i am, i give the ol' Lemme check....(insert whistle),,not bad thanks,,,you?

Lerry Glick is definitly one of the best .....I grew up listening to him , old Zenith radio turned way down low so I wouldn't get caught. He had the most bizzarre guests.......and all of his drops were a hoot! Remember his rattle on the way out the door at the end of his shift? Goodbye in a ton of different languages

I'd have to credit my initial interest in radio to Johnny Dark from 68 RKO in the early to mid '70's..............he lived next door to my grandparents at the time in Braintree, and boy, could that man light a mean barbecue!!!!..............Johnny's idea of a good fire on the grill was "the more lighter fluid, the better"............there were days in the summer that we all thought he would burn down the entire neighborhood...........my sister and I were thrilled to be interviewed by him on WRKO when we were in our preteens, and we wore our RKO T-shirts with pride.

Of course, Uncle Dale has always been a favorite.............how could we not respect him?...........we all grew up listening to him when it was cool to listen to AM radio.

J.J. Wright............what a voice...............always sounded sooooo smooooooth.

Charles Laquidera.............listened to The Biiiiig Mattress every morning before school.

Larry Glick
...........who doesn't remember listening to him in the wee hours of the morning??.............<whistle> let me check...............my mother always had him turned on in the morning when I came downstairs for breakfast..............and when I worked the 4 AM shift at a coffee shop, the baker and I would listen to him every morning............some of his comments were so funny he had us in tears.

Actually, you're wrong............it wasn't "good-bye" in different languages...........it was "good morning"...........bonjour, buenos dias, buon giorno, good morning to you.............

Sorry; Jordan wants to be loved by all listeners, and, alas, he largely succeeds. I say alas because he is NOT a good guy! His politics are extreme right wing, which wouldn't disqualify him from being labeled a good guy--even in my mind--if I hadn't heard him pull some really sleazy stunts on the air.

1. A caller calls to complain about the high salaries being paid to teachers in the caller's community (Stoughton or Canton, IIRC). Caller says, "and they pay them $40,000 a year!" Rich concurs heartily. Ever try to live on $40k/year in Eastern Mass? I'll bet that Jordan hasn't had to do that since gasoline was $.60 a gallon. A good guy would have said, "Well, there's another side to that story."

2. Early in the 2006 election campaign, a caller calls with some untrue story about Democrats that had been widely circulated on the Web and had also been thoroughly debunked. Jordan let the caller tell the whole untrue story and never said that the facts had shown the story to be a fabrication. In addition, he continued with, "What's more, did you realize that..." and goes on to repeat another story of questionable authenticity. Sorry, but I don't recall the specifics of the stories.

I guess that both of these anecdotes would fall in the realm of the acceptable IF Jordan were hosting a political talk show. You expect this kind of stuff from, say, Neil Boortz or Rusty Humphries, but Jordan is supposed to be doing lighthearted stuff that appeals to listeners regardless of their politics. And that's what's so insidious about it. He loves to slyly insert and twist the knife in the back of those who disagree with his own politics--all in the name of being lighthearted and entertaining. I can't accept that as describing a good guy.

(1) Sunny Joe White R.I.P. (2) Elroy R.C. Smith( 3) Uncle Dale (4) Lady D (5) Candi Eastman .

Better Check Your Facts on Jordan Rich

While Jordan's politics may be right of center I have to come to his defense. Number ONE: Jordan's wife is a school librarian [ don't bring up Laura Bush; Jordan's wife ACTUALLY does this for a living and has for many years].
Further, Jordan is not a knee jerk conservative. I think Jordan is alway aiming at a balanced presentation and I have never heard him allow callers of any political stripe to go unchallenged.

Better check your facts

This is a tough one. There are so many

1. Nancy Quill...At Magic from the start; not easy to stay at a station for 25 years.
2. Jordan Rich...fantastic smooth voice, very versatile, and a good person.
3. Marc Laurence...extremely knowledgable; very consistent; great guy
4. Laura Carlo...nobody does classical music like Laura; a true WCRB mainstay
5. Bob Bitner...he's made a lot of people happy keeping the heritage calls, WJIB
