Your Wish List For The New Party FM 87.7

Well, on the eve of the debut of New York's "newest" FM station, I thought I would open up a thread for people who want to put in their wish list for the new station. What do you think they should do, whether it can be reasonably done or not? Which things from Pulse would you like them to keep? OK, here goes my wish list, so please bear with me: ;)

1. Become, over time, identified with New York, at least the 87.7 part. I hope that, over time, they would be able to have a separate feed for the New Yorkers. If they have to play the hiphop and r&b, then better on the Suffolk feed, where there is a need there, so better they can fill the heavy dance demand in the big city.

2. I hope a new law is passed that allows the station to have an FM audio broadcast on either 87.7 or 87.9, instead of the TV audio on 87.75. That'll depend on what Island Broadcasting wants to do with the TV station, of course. This would hopefully enable some more radios to receive the station. For example, my mini-stereo system (purchased in the 1980s) has a tuning dial that can reach to 87.75 and the car radio can receive that frequency as well but the living room home stereo, which has a digital tuner, can't receive any signal beyond a tenth of a digit. It can go to 87.7 and 87.9 but not in between. I read that newer digital stereos don't go below 87.9, which is a problem for Party FM.

3. Weekends be opened up for guest DJs. I would like to hear Liquid Todd on the air again. :)

4. Specialty shows on weekends and holidays. These would be a good way of putting on trance, techno, rave, triphop, Latin House, without the fear of alienating fans of the official musical focus.

5. Play tracks like Ian Carey - Redlight (original mix) & MBM - Mindstream (Orbital remix) ;D

6. Don't get too caught up in what's considered happening in the now. That's how bad dance tunes get heavy rotation in the first place. Sometimes, you need to differentiate from the competition. And create your own buzz!

7. Resist the temptation to become more urban. Just because we're a big city doesn't mean the music has to be stereotypically a "big-city sound", if you get what I mean.

8. If this new station does get a solid footing, then I wish that there would a mix show every late night on the weekdays some time in the future. This is where you give unknown but good DJ a chance to break in where they won't have that opportunity at Corporate Radio (TM).

Other than those, I wish Party FM the best of luck in succeeding where Pulse failed. :)

See, I take issue to that last part because I did not think Pulse failed. :)

If anything Pulse did, they have "planted the seed" for people to hear the music, and not only just hear it but to be passionate about it and not to take things for granted. Dance music DID NOT fail Pulse 87, financials did....and that took place BEFORE a Pulse even existed.

Pulse 87 will be in our hearts and minds for years down the road. Dance fans will talk about Pulse 87 10 years from now. So in that sense, Pulse did NOT fail :)

The king is dead, long live the king! Best of luck to Party FM. SUPPORT! :)

There is an amazing chance here for Vic Latino, PartyFM and Dance Music Fans Everywhere. Its time to come together and support the music and have an amazing time. Dance music struggles in the USA and it doesn't need to; there are tons of fans but they need good radio (online and in the air) to come to and be loyal to... so - my wish; for PartyFM is to give those fans that reason, the reason to follow proudly and have a good time!

His name does have a point. This past weekend, dance was everywhere around New York, and even parts of the Southern Tier in Upstate NY. 8)

Allow me to input my thoughts on this.

I hope Vic picks up advertisers from New York City and puts them on the Party web page and on the air.

That's one way for the 87.7 lease agreement to become profitable for JVC LLC.

Party will transition from being a Long Island station with a New York simulcast, to a New York station with a Long Island simulcast. Obviously Vic will be picking up the NY/NJ advertisers.

My wish list for PartyFM:

Move the studios to New York City, or at least Nassau County
Club appearances EVERYWHERE in the 87.7 and 105.3 listening area
More dance, less hip hop that I can hear on 8 other stations. I need a reason to listen to 87.7 through the static, songs I can hear static free on 8 other stations isn't going to keep my TSL up
A better signal on 87.7, or a simulcast in New Jersey, but I know that will never happen
The former Pulse 87 employees to get hired by JVC
Shows with a big-time lineup like Pulse 87's Birthday Bash
Eventually, split up the simulcast and focus on each market separately

Well I'd like to see Party cut back on the hip hop and focus on the dance, which makes perfect sense since NYC is saturated with hip hop. I'd also like to see them keep the 101.5 translater, 87.7 isnt all that strong in Nassau, esp the eastern part. I know its their first day but they need to improve the audio processing on 87.7 to match the Party 105 sound here on LI.
Also I want to see Andre the DRE DOG back on the air.
Most of all PLEASE dont put spanish on 101.5, we have too many spanish stations as it is, with 92.7, 93.1, 96.3 and 97.9!

Well you got part of your wish...

Listening today on my way to work I heard Vic say that some of the Pulse 87 DJs and MCs are going to be on Party. He specifically mentioned that DJ Serg (who used to do the nooner at noon) will be doing a 5pm rush hour mixshow.

1. More Pulse 87 music.
2. Less Hot 97 music.
3. Less blah blah blah - DJs who know when to shut up.
4. Enough advertising to pay the bills.
5. We wish you success, so pay attention to your total market, which isn't necessarily reflected by the rants on this or any other message board!

To keep the 1 million + NYC/NJ crowd happy.

1-Terminate HIP HOP we have enough of that gangster crap in NYC.

2-Have a format like the original hot 97.

3-Bring back the pulse 87 staff.(party 105)staff don't cut it for me.

4-Increase the web stream to 128k,party 105 has it @ 32k lousy for 2009 standards.

5-I hope Vic Latino will listen the to these suggestions if he wants to be successful in the tri-state area.

1. More dance, less hip-hop.
2. More dance, less hip-hop.
3. More dance, less hip-hop.

Read some of the other discussions around the net, this is certainly the resounding outcry from the former Pulse listeners. I know Tony says to be patient, but the clock is running.

I stopped listening to radio until Pulse 87.7. There is enough repetitive crap on all the other stations and it was refreshing to hear something different. I agree that Pulse 87 didn't fail, specially since the other stations would play songs that were being played on Pulse. I hope that the new Party will stay away from what the five other stations are already doing and bring something new to the table, otherwise a lot of listeners are going to go back to their I-pods!

I wouldn't agree to terminate hip hop because the mix of hip hop is tradition, meaning hip hop was played from the birth of Party. Since I found Party 105 back in 2000, they always had that mix of hip hop and dance, although it was about 70% dance and 30% hip hop. I have to agree the best period was after the channelcast crap when Andre was PD and about 85% was dance and 15% hip hop. Can't forget at that period, 101.7 was hip hop at that time too, so that explained why Party was heavy on dance.

Still never answered my question on another thread in here, where I guaranteed that we would get a dance station sooner than it took the fans of oldies to get their music back.

WAS I RIGHT??!!!!!!??

1. More Pulse 87 music . will that would be nice with city that big and no dance/chrt Music station
2. Less blah blah blah - DJs who know when to shut up. your right
4. Enough advertising to pay the bills . Now that hard one as no one want to spend and move up the chain from street - newspapers Medai radio tv and so on . pity as some one say we be chatting about Pulse for next 10 years , rember listen to 2 station on c90 tapes back in the early 90s think was 100 and 95 , from the mid 80s when radio came from Usa , not any more think djs in EU are lot better then USa head , just what i think

I live in EU and travel a lot around EU working for Radio , justs in Nyc and all the club were playying Dance , RnB Hip Hop but was my hard drive Rapped (sorry) so many time by dj for NYC State for good Euro Dance Music

Knowing the very savvy Vic Latino going back to when "The" was still his middle name, Party will remain Party;
why would a successful formula(Party) switch gears to sound like a fallen formula(Pulse)?
Answer; it won't, as it would alienate the established fan base on Long Island for starters...

Except that Party hasn't had one "successful formula." 105.3's frequent format/music tweaks are well known to many on this board. As for Pulse, anything you say about that station has zero credibility (or negative credibility, if there was such a thing), as your "microwave oven" posting history speaks for itself. Funny how you don't have any comments about your microwave oven now that a "very savvy" contact of yours is taking over the frequency (and this is not meant as an insult to Vic Latino, but meant to point out the incredible bias some people around here have).

The original Hot 97 DID play some Hip Hop, and definitely played more than just Dance music. I've posted proof of this on the Dance board:
http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php/topic,155979.0.html

I COMPLETELY agree with this. If Party FM plays a good mix of Pop, Hip-Hop AND Dance (prioritizing on Dance) then that IS kind of a TRUE return to original form, since HOT 103/97 did just that and was on TOP of the ratings many times. PLEASE TELL THIS TO SOME OF THE HATERS ON PARTY FM'S page on Facebook because apparently they don't get it. Honestly I LOVED the mix of music they were playing a bit earlier. I heard Sexy Chick, right into Broken Strings by Carefree, right into Release Me by Agnes, right into a new song from Timbaland and THAN into the latest from Gaga, Bad Romance!! NOW if they keep that sort of thing up more and more, I can surely deal with the occasional Jay-Z or similar sort of artist, to me that's MORE than acceptable!! That's the ORIGINAL HOT 97!!!!!!!!!
