You're A Mean One, CBS Pittsburgh...

Today, I've been sampling the "North Pole Radio" channel from CBS Radio/Pittsburgh via their online player, though for legal purposes, the channel can be found on B-94's HD-2 channel. (Yeah, I know, more folks are listening to 3WS - whatever...) Anyway, I'd say that their playlist is quite small, considering I've heard some songs replay within a four-hour period. With that said, so far, it's been the only Christmas station I've heard that plays far less Amy Grant songs than the other stations I've sampled this season. Damned if you do...

Anyway, one of the songs heard on "NPR" today was "You're A Mean One, Mr. Grinch," performed by an artist named Thurl Ravenscroft. Yet, on the station player, the artist is listed as: "Thurl Rosencroft." What a zing job. Reminded me of earlier this year, when Mayor Luke Ravenstahl, in anticipation of a playoff game between the Steelers and the Ravens, changed his name to "Steelerstahl." I wonder if he's behind this listing.

Anyway, Merry Christmas to all...

Thurl Ravenscroft has been heard by millions over the years, although perhaps unknowingly, as the voice of Tony the Tiger.

"They're G-R-R-R-REAT!"

Sure did. He made a rare on-camera appearance in the documentary on the making of the "Grinch" special. And there is a website devoted to his life and career, called "All Things Thurl."

One of those talents almost everyone has heard, but few know by name.

sort of like your Christmas job at the mall where they run the same 2 hr. loop of Christmas music over and over and over.....

If I ever hear Bing Crosby sing Christmas in Killarney one more time I think I'm gonna hurl...

I always thought it was called "Christmas in the Army" ;) Now there's a perfectly good song title if someone wants to finish writing the song.

I think I heard somewhere that he was the bass voice on Bobby Vee's "Devil Or Angel"....may or may not be accurate.
