You're hired! Without an interview?

Perhaps if you blew them away with your stuff, or if they are having trouble keeping a staff.

I would suggest that you request some face time, or take the gig and think of the first few months as a probationary period for them. If you don't like what you see, you always have the right to BAIL.

In 2002, WSAY in Rocky Mount hired me (and moved me and my family from Indiana) after several emails and a phone interview. (I spent 3 years thereand should have never left) Every other place I've worked I did have a face to face. I doubt that is the norm, though.

I have a gig Throwdown. I just wondered because I heard WRNS hired their new mid-day jock with only a phone interview. I guess they didn't want to spend the $$$ to fly her in for an interview.

Every position I have had has always had a face to face interview.

Some days I wish I could have snagged one based upon my experience alone.

Only in a dream... :-\

Radio "talent" is enough of a crapshoot anyway, the interview only tells you if they are a good interview or not, not if they sound good on air or in appearances or whatever. In today's world, most of communication is done in other than "interview" situations anyway....but it still sounds strange.

Throwdown hit it, "knows someone in the building" (or in the company). And with cost of airfare these days, why not just hire someone on the phone. If they don't fit, you can always fire them via e-mail! :~)

Is she a re-hire or maybe she knew someone in the building prior to this gig?

Not standard but not unheard of.

I heard she's from Texas, used to do overnights, and, I don't think she knows anyone at Next.

Next has stations in Texas. Ever hear of a PD or GM promoting a competitor as air talent for a company owned station? Serves two purposes - get they out of your market, and help your sister station.

Could have been interviewed by the PD or GM of the Texas station. You know, with the price of gas, and expense of operating radio stations today, it is not a bad idea!

Now, the bigger question - would you take a job without a face to face interview with the people you will ultimately work for?

Only if I had been there before, or knew the operation really, really well.

Then again depends on how happy the workplace is.

i just hope they don't find her on the wrong side of kinston in the wrns van trying to buy crack

Apropos of nothing whatsoever, it still seemed like the proper thread to share this with my radio peers: I started when I was 14 at a local AM daytimer(1kw/250w) in SC. When I got canned a year and a half later, I went to the competition in town...another AM daytimer(250w). They were located in a trailer in the bad side of town. They knew who I was, for sure, and yes, they were keenly interested in swooping in and hiring someone from the "other" guys across town. So what did they do? They gave me an application...a blank sheet of paper, and said, "Ok, um, how about you fill this out for us." Never got a blank sheet of paper for a job app ever again....but I did get hired. ;)

Damn PeeWee that's cold....funny but cold...Boy she killed a decent career. She was not the nicest person I've ever met but she had a following..

So, what did you write on the paper? The suspense is killing us!

lol. I wrote my name, address, phone number and birthdate. I didn't know my SSN....I mean, hell, I was 15 and a half...I didn't memorize my SSN until I went to college. I remember wondering if I filled it out right. A blank sheet of paper...geez.
