It's time for Radio's favorite new game....

YOU'RE THE PD!!!

Here's the scenario: a major radio corporation has hired you to take on one of their stations and make it relevant for todays fast paced iPod type world. You have total control on EVERYTHING: programming, hiring, sales, promotions, you name it.

Feel free to post what you would do to have a successful radio station in Market #7. Tell us about who you'd have on the air, what kind of promotions you'd have, how would you market your station, who are your core artists, your demo, your playlists, etc. The possibilties are endless! Have fun!!!

Format: CHR-M

Mornings: Atom & Reno - formerly KRBE - Houston
Mid-Days: Silly Jilly - WHKF - Harrisburg, PA
Afternoons: JJ Kincaid - WHTZ - New York
Nights: Billy The Kidd - KHKS - Dallas
Overnights: Matt Kuhl - KAFX - Lufkin

Sample Hour:
Nickelback - Far Away
Nelly Furtado - Promiscuous
Chingy - Pullin' Me Back
Cherish - Do It To It
Fray - Over My Head
Justin Timberlake - SexyBack
Chris Brown - Run it
Fergie - London Bridge
Ne-Yo - Sexy Love
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Dani California
Pussycat Dolls - Buttons
Yung Joc - It's Goin' Down

If you want more details, just ask!

Dave

Mornings: Carson & Lauren from KRBE, maybe Hunter Green from KHMX as a sidekick OR Zakk United & Karah Leigh from KTBZ
Middays: I'm not sure, but I would want a female.
Afternoons: Don Jantzen from KTBZ
Nights: Atom Smasher
Overnights: This is where I would put someone who is ready to make the move from weekends to full time.
Weekends: I would mix it up and give some newcomers a chance. You can't have great jocks in the future if you don't train them today.

Music:
I would do a rock leaning CHR, light on the golds. If you're programming for the IPOD generation, you better keep it fresh and new.
Example:
Panic at the Disco - I Write Sins
Evanesence - Call Me When You're Sober
Nelly Furtado - Promiscuous
Gnarls Barkely - Crazy
Hinder - Lips of an Angel
Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars
Raconteours - Steady as She Goes
Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Face Down
Rihanna - Unfaithful
All American Rejects - Move Along

Promotions:
The station would be EVERYWHERE. None of that putting up a couple of banners and then hanging out in the van crap. If there is a concert that our listeners would be at, we should be there making noise and being noticed. No excuses.

Well i can certainly see why you are SPECTATORS :D

So... where are your ideas? Perhaps JACKASS-FM? :D

Personally, since the music listener now has the power of selection and no longer has to rely on a DJ to spin new music, I'd hook up a deal with iTunes and other online music sources and tap into their most demanded music per format. Let the consumer drive the playlist. After all, it is what they are listening to. But that is probably too obvious for the suit and tie crowd.
