you've just bought some stations what do you do with them?????

Let's say you are Don Curtis & Henry Hinton.Cashflow is not a problem. This market is oversaturated with radio stations. Most every format except for backwards Hungarian polka is being done.... What do you do with your new toys???

Country??? WRNS is the big daddy & you really don't have the signal(dualcasting is a nightmare). They are the station for the "Hot(hate that term) new country.
The Bear does a nice job with classic country which is what Archway should have done instead of Eagle before the bear came to town but as we know Archway wrote a huge novel on what not to do with radio stations. They went through more GM's than Elizabeth Taylor has husbands. Hank was not a bad idea but it should have went after the Bear instead of WRNS. God knows Lee Cherry & I tried
to be different and we were making headway but too much corporate stuff got in the way and we both lost and now Hank sounds like everyone else with the same 300 songs, voicetracking and airtalent that sounds totally out of place on a country station.. So let's take 94.1 & 94.3 first. If they were yours what would you do with them to stand out in this market and not get lost in the shuffle like so many stations have??????

94 needs to go back to AC. The only way Hot can defend itself against Bob at this point is to go Hot AC. I'm not saying this needs to happen to both at the same time, as it would certainly overlap a lot. But it could work if both were programmed right. Eat at 93.3 and 103.3 at the same time.

Otherwise, what's left? They could take 96.3/103.7 Hot AC and leave the 94's country. I don't see much potential out of 94.1 and 94.3 unless they are split apart again and programmed separately to Greenville and New Bern.

BTW, good to hear you on 107.9 Allan. I worked with you a few years ago.

You know my thoughts.....

Here's a novel idea - stations with signal problems should stop trying to be what they can't be! Figure out what area you can service and super serve it with music, information and community involvement. Never did understand why a station with limited signal tried to act so big!

There are millions of dollars in advertising that radio doesn't get because they are trying to compete on a regional basis. Sometimes it pays to think smaller and rake in the dough!

I agree with you there. Smaller wattage stations can do way more than the big boys can and in some cases be a "test" bed for new ideas and formats. The ad dollars are more local than reginal. And besides if the station is signally challenged there's no way it can ever compete in the big picture. The only way it COULD is through the streaming of its signal on the internet. But that costs way too much for a small wattage station to bear so it really has no way unless it does go more local.
