So I'm watching Gary Papa's football frenzy, and during the highlights, they of course show the footage from Fox 29. Alas, in the background I hear Merril Reece who of course is on WYSP. Why is Merril's voice heard and not any of the fox announcers?

Because Merill gets excited when the Eagles make a big play, the generic network announcers don't.

"MacNabb to Owens...he's back, he looks, he throws..."TOUCHDOWN!!!"
vs. "Touchdown for Philadelphia...and DON'T FORGET to tune in tonight for a new episode of the SIMPSONS..."

And you forgot "This touchdown brought to you by amaroso italian rolls, the official tailgate dinner roll of the Philadelphia Eagles" Merrill is famous for having a sponsor for every part of the game.
One of these days Merrill is going to tell Mike Quick off-air that he is going to go take a piss, and his piss break is sponsored by Budweiser, King of beers"

Agreed, the plugs have gotten worse, I doubt it's Merill's decision to have them, but he's a team player, and does work them in well. If you listen to other NFL local coverage they all have these now. My point is I enjoy Merill's hometown passion about the Eagles to a generic announcer watching the team for the first time that season and reading us scripted facts about the team that we all know because we live here and have followed them for years. Personal preference, no matter how many bad plugs I have to listen to. I also like to listen to the Penn State radio coverage but have to put up with AM buzz and endless promotions for medical & right-wing talk shows on WNPV.
