YSP on the morning drive

I am surprised no one else has brought this topic up, but to me YSP with Frank Lario in the AM drivers seat sounds great, I have found myself locked, Awesome Music and a great guy to go along with it.

IMO this is what YSP should stick with to compete with P&S, Talk in the morning or rock. let the listeners decide.

Maybe CBS was thinking this and was looking for an excuse to dump KC... ;)

MMR tried that against Stern. It didn't work. Of course, P&S aren't Stern, so you never know.

It's interesting that we now have WYSP, WRFF and Q102 all playing music in the morning with very minimal DJ content (i.e., mornings almost sound just like afternoons). You almost never hear much music in the morning except on AC stations (which we also have - B101, Ben-FM). I wonder how many of the stations will stay like that.

I'm in DC this week and I happened to be in the car this morning. I checked out Elliott and all I can say is I hope to God that this show isn't coming to Philadelphia. Just more of the same guy/girl morning show. It wasn't the worst show I've ever heard, but it certainly doesn't bring anything new to the table.

I lived in DC for six years. Yeah, that guy is pretty terrible. The most annoying laugh I've ever heard on the radio. But apparently he gets decent ratings.

YSP never sounded better. hopefully they will keep it that way.

while P&S are Talkin' Frnak is Rockin'

i'll echo the kudos for ysp mornings and frank lario. planned all along? i doubt it, but it is one happy accident. they should stick with it, and i'll bet the ratings emerge from the depths and put them back in the game.

Your Rocking with Frank Lario in the morning..... ;)

It's funny for the last few years Frank has been a fill in guy and was curious why they never gave him a full shift.

YSP Management if you read this board take our advise...It's a slam dunk you will come out from ratings hell!

I guess Elliot is not your style. He happens o be very talented, offbeat and fun to listen to for many of us. He's been on DC101 for 9 years because he is NOT the same old Guy/Girl radio. For some not others apparently.

I agree that Frank Lario is a good jock. He should be get a perminant full time slot. I even thought back when he was on MMR they were foolish to fire him and replace him with Dee Snider. You see how that worked out.

Now if they can only open up the playlist (sister OGL has a wider list which aint saying much), instead of the same few burnt out familiar tunes they would explode. They still dont have the gusto that they had in the 90's early 00's, when playing Active. Its good to hear Twisted on their rotation, now open up the Heavy Metal/Rock gates and let if flow....

When I said he was "pretty terrible," I thought it was clear that that was my opinion. He's apparently very good at his job, which is to get ratings in the morning in the right demos in a major market. I just personally can't stand to listen to him for very long.

And I usually like the DC shows that don't do well in other markets: Greaseman and especially Don & Mike.

I heard it for the first time yesterday, and left it on for my entire commute. It's nice to hear music in the morning instead of a yakfest. Gives me a reason to listen to WYSP!

Frank Lario Morning Drive

Wow ! What a change of pace - NICE :)

I have listening to satellite for a while now and recently turned on YSP for the morning drive just to check what has happened since I away....finally what a morning drive should be - great music with a great personality to match and no some lame ass dynamic duos etc..

I forgot that Frank Lario was at MMR - they should have kept him there - but they f-ed up. Now YSP should capitalize on the talent.

Ain, how's The Mike O'Meara show sounding? I liked "Don and Mike" and wanted to know, from a D&M fan POV, how he's holdin down the ol fort?

I haven't been listening. I'm listening to old D&M podcasts instead. When I run out of those (I'm listening to entire shows in order and I'm up to the middle of last October), I'll give the MOM show a shot.

I listened to the first show and I didn't like it much.

From what I've read, it sounds the same; a lot like it sounded during the D&M era when Don would be absent on a given day for whatever reason. Which, IMO, was pretty terrible. Mike very hyper, more abrupt with callers than Don was, and not listening to anyone in the studio. They've added in Buzz's news in the first and second hours, and many more guests. It seems like an elaborate way to make sure Mike doesn't have to talk so much.

I'm looking for a show to take over as my new go to once I run out of D&M stuff. MOM is on the list of candidates, but it doesn't look promising.

Doesn't Frank do afternoons on CayRock in the Cayman Islands? Does he do that show from here? Ben Maxwell does mornings down there and is the program director. Frank is on their website.

Mornings in Philly, afternoons in the islands?

sounds like Lario is one smart cookie, and in high demand. no wonder YSP tapped him to do mornings. the electronic/information age can be a marvelous thing for those who know what they're doing ;D
