YSP's demise, the RAT and KLAQ

Another rumor I heard is CBS giving YSP until the end of Eagles season to get some decent ratings, if not, Active Rock will return in all dayparts. IMHO, I wish YSP will go full time Talk, I am dead sure, and have been saying it for almost a year, they are stopping another station from picking up the format. If someone else does it, it will be much better sounding, without all the yakking and sports jargon. I have been listening to the RAT and KLAQ on the net, both have fabulous Active formats, the RAT is a great small town feel station with great music. KLAQ is also a very good Active Rocker, El Paso, with a population of over 85% Hispanic, and this Active Rocker is always in the top three, go figure!!! I think this is partly because Mexican Hispanics enjoy Rock, where-as PR, Cuba and the Island Hispanics dig the Rap sound. Due to the fact everyone from CC is avoiding my questions concerning the 104.5 flip and Brian is hiding, proves to me it was more than a business move than what meets the eye. CC wants to look good in the "Promote Minority Scrapbook" maybe the Dem's will throw some capital their way and allow them to make a few more Illegal station moves, one hand washes the other. Remember the R1 moves, DRE/PLY flips, not money wise, their type wise. To answer the other post, I think White America is getting screwed once again. There are more whites listening to T-Radio than any other race, most of them embrace Country, Rock, Classical and Standards, so where are these formats. The suits are just blowing smoke so they can keep pushing the Urban style sound, which has the highest spendthrifts, who buy anything and can be swindeled into loosing money. I don't think its the net/HD or Satellite causing the slide in Anglo formats, I just don't believe it, what is the white poor to do, be forced fed this culture over the airwaves. In the year 2050, (most of us will be gone), but the white race will be below 50% for the first time in American history, what will the dial sound like then....do I see an asteroid headed this way by then...

Can you make one post about radio without bringing race into it? You came close... but still you managed to be a bigot.

You are so right about the RAT, one unique station. It was 10 years to the day, Robin, Hook and myself were talking about putting this format on the air in a Conservative Adult market. Boy did we catch the flack. I hear the RAT is not as good as when it first launched, do I hear getting whimpy. I gotta go visit, it was Risky and H E A V Y at that time in music history when it was born. The Q is also a unique station in its area of consideration, down in SW Texas that always pulls good numbers. Man! Oh! Man!, you sure find the tuck-aways.

And he's right even more about KLAQ because I worked in that market in the 80's , and even then that station kicked butt. Always in the top 3 back as well. In an extreme hispanic market, there use to be 2 AOR's and they both managed to hit top 10 12+.

WRAT (95.9, Belmar/Point Pleasant, http://www.wrat.com ) is, unfortunately, getting wimpier, and has ever since it was purchased by Greater Media. Call it the MMR-ification of WRAT, if you will. They don't play any edgier Active Rock acts (Slipknot, Sevendust, System Of A Down, Rage Against The Machine, etc.), and when they do play Korn, it's a tamed watered-down remix. They have been showing more of a "trad rock" lean with their Currents and Gold selection, and only play about 15 or so Currents, all of which are by established acts (that means no Black Stone Cherry, Eighteen Visions, or any other up and comers on the format). And forget about hearing the edgier stuff on the charts like Underoath, Bullet For My Valentine, and the new Staind song "King Of All Excuses" which is their best single since the Dysfunction album, IMO. I haven't mentioned all the lite-rock that gets played either, like "Broken" by Seether & Amy Lee and all of the 3 Doors Down ballads. I still listen, because the personalities are great and they're one of two bearable stations in Monmouth/Ocean - the other (G Rock Radio, 106.3/106.5, Eatontown/Bass River Twp., http://www.grockradio.com ), while good, caters a bit too much to Females with its excessive airplay of softer rock and pop/punk acts like Fall Out Boy, Green Day and Yellowcard).

WJSE (102.7 The Ace, Petersburg/Atlantic City, http://www.TheAce1027.com ) is New Jersey's most interesting commercial FM, IMO. They play a wide variety of currents ranging from mellow to very loud and aggressive (they're an Active/Alternative hybrid), and the library never gets boring. O'Hara won't recommend it because they play "evil liberal" acts like RATM, but you would be hard pressed to find a station like this in the Northeast - while other rock stations sound very safe and timid, you never know what you're going to hear next on The Ace.

Also recommended: WZBH (93.5, Georgetown DE, http://www.wzbhrocks.com ). An Active Rocker that plays lots of currents (including the edgier bands) with more of a modern focus leaning toward the '90s and today, though they also throw on the likes of Ozzy and AC/DC as well.

Just like the rumor your heard from the higherups at HFS that Sunny was going active rock?

Little secret for you. O&A are going NO. Where.

Even if WYSP does flip back to music, they'll stay with O&A in the mornings. So "all dayparts" doesn't work. Sorry.

Last time I checked.... RADIO WAS A BUSINESS.

And last time I checked, Radio One owns 100.3, 103.9 and 107.9. They can do whatever they damn well please with them as long as they follow FCC guidelines. Hell, they could run dead air for 59 minutes and 58 seconds each hour and have a legal ID at the top of the hour and get away with it. Clear Channel can do whatever the want with their stations within FCC guidelines, and Rumba 104.5 and Philly 106.1 are both within FCC guidelines. If it doesn't cater to you, THEN DON'T LISTEN. We get the point that your a racist bigot who only wants english language stations with crunching guitars on every single frequency because you think rule the world and everyone should bow to your views.

Enough already. You're a racist version of Julius, and I hope you get banned (again, since you probably are a re-incarnation of RockIntern/RunningWithScissors)

Amen Beejus! My rant was bubbling up, but you took care of it for me!

I happened to be at the Eagles game Friday night to see my Steelers. I noticed that none of the YSP logos were updated in the Stadium. With a top market promotions budget, that is unacceptable.

TECHNICALLY... they are still 94.1 WYSP... just now with a new hip FREE FM name. If an Arb book holder wrote down WYSP, they still get credit.

So yeah, it isn't GREAT to have up old banners, but they're better than nothing at all right?

Hey snowman, I was their too. Only 1 of the logos was updated and that was by the big tv, but the rest of the ads were still the old logo. They also showed a few WYSP ads.

They wont go back to active rock. They cant give a new format less than a year before they pull the plug the public still needs time to actually realize that its not a full time rock station anymore
