Ysr

I know you never say "no" to someone who's paying the bills, but I can't take Yahoo! Radio Sports any more. I'm still a big Czabe fan. Unfortunately, a product called Mental Bright has taken over the network with a huge flight of annoying commercials. They're poorly done, and the frequency is maddening. There's at least one in every break, at least on the internet feed that I listen to. Yes, I realize that in this day in age, we can't be picky, as long as the checks clear.

The fact that you listen at all to YSR should qualify you for a free jar of Mental Bright Nigel...a quick perusal of the Mental Bright website explains why you're hearing countless rejoins, live reads, recorded endorsements, segment sponsorships, more live rejoins, recorded rejoins, and more endorsements. It seems this product has been developed by the son of YSR's owner, David Gow. Young Master Lawson Gow created Mental Bright as his senior project at Rice and now is "outspending" (not sure if it's paid advertising or a "pay for performance" deal with his dad) every other advertiser on the network. So, remember, every order of Mental Bright helps feed a hungry Gow offspring...

YSR Mental Dull

I've always been a huge Czaban fan, back to when he did evenings on FSR. His show is one of the best things out there. Unfortunately, the Mental Bright saturation "buy" renders the show unlistenable. I can take a ton of spots, as long as they're well done, entertaining, and there's some variety. Chris Morales, the board op spokesman, loves the filter mic and seems to be on a bit of an ego trip.

I wonder how long the contract with Gow Broadcasting has left? I can't imagine there is a great deal of resources dedicated by Yahoo to this, beyond the branding. Sports radio without the broadcast of actual sporting events is never going to be a big draw. There's just too much sports talk out there now anyway with the NBC Sports Radio and YSR being the weakest offerings. If they're both making money I guess they can endure. Only time will tell.

Yeah, Czabe strays into politics once in a while. His colleagues usually drag him back into "common sense" territory. He still produces an entertaining morning show. I tried listening again today. "Mental Bright" has still hijacked the network with some of the most annoying and poorly produced commercials known to man. No variety. Plus, the guy who does the breakers, Chris Morales, has an irritating tendency to over emphasize the last consonant in every word. The content is decent. Unfortunately, the production renders the show unlistenable. Not an ESPN guy, so it's back to FSR.
