Yule Log

It's that time of the year.

In the Fort Myers market, WXCW TV "6 TV" (the CW affiliate) will begin airing the yule log tonight at 11:00 pm, following the WINK News at 10 on 6 TV.

Yippie ::) I hate this time of year, because TV pretty much sucks right around Christmas time.

You would have loved it even more back in the 50's where virtually all day Sunday and every religious holiday was filled with preachers, church services and the like. Both TV and radio.

Philadelphia/WPHL ~ 9am-12pm

I think if I lived back in the 50's, I would have shot myself out of boredom. The Happy Days lifestyle is not for me.

Off-topic -- LowPayDJ: you wouldn't have known any different. Many of us appreciate and take advantage of the technology we have in the present that simply was not around at that time. I remember before we had cell phones we had to either remember telephone numbers or write them down on a sheet of paper and carry it in our wallets...and this was less than twenty years ago!

Back on topic...

Are there any other stations (non-Tribune) airing the yule log?

Gannett's WATL/36 in Atlanta. Though this was a Tribune station for a few years in the earlier part of the decade.

CNN's Newsroom show has occasional monitors (behind the anchor desk; over to the side where they track Facebook and Twitter traffic) showing the Yule Log this morning. As they went to one break earlier, 2 of the off-screen studio people were up at the Facebook/Twitter monitors rubbing their hands together like they were warming themselves in front of the 'log'.

Fox-owned KUTP (My45) Phoenix has been running it for many years. I think it goes back to when Chris-Craft owned the station.

Interestingly, KSAZ (Fox 10 Phoenix), the sister station of KUTP-45 had KUTP's yule log showing on their background big-screen on the morning show.

I remember back in the early 80's when WPIX run the yule log for hours on end.cable station MSG was running the log about 6 years ago.
I happen to catch WTIC 's version yesterday morning.also the local Wal-Mart was running their own yule log on the HDTV's in the store for weeks.

KOFY TV 20 has shown it in the past. Gannett owns KOFY now, maybe they did. I have San Bruno Cable and they lost the rebroadcast of KOFY TV 20 awhile ago, so I do not know if they did it this year.

I was going to ask about WMYT, I didn't get to see it since the power was out at my mom's house. Hasn't WMYT done it every year since they've been on the air?

Frankly, the yule log was almost as interesting as the weather tease, and the weather-cast which basically repeated the same forecast (sunny and 54 w/isolated morning fog--Seattle) on the other network affiliates. The greater point is that when the weather is stable, or stagnant, (which is common in Seattle), a picture of a yule log burning is just as compelling.

I refer LowPayDJ to http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=152203.10 reply #14.

On topic, My 12 in Charlotte. I haven't watched it yet. I would actually be listening while doing something else. If it's what I hope it is.

Is it the same everywhere?

I would also agree with you statement, except for the shooting myself out of boredom part.

I try not to pay much attention to television this time of the year since all the marathons and Christmas specials will either burn you out or kill whatever joy you have of the holiday season.
