Z-100 New York - Now Arbitron Ranked NUMBER ONE!

The new trends came out today, and sitting pretty at the top is the mighty CHR/Pop outlet Z-100. Odds are looking good that in the full summer ratings period Z will also rank in first place. I believe the last time WHTZ ranked first overall was back in 1989, though there have been several occasions since where the station ranked 2nd.

Congrats to all involved - CHR radio is alive and well!
Meanwhile KIIS-FM L.A. inches up a tenth of a share, still good for 2nd overall. Kiss Chicago also gained a tenth of a share, and continues to lead over B-96 (which for a Rhythmic is definitely leaning CHR/Pop).

I'm THRILLED. Kinda bittersweet for CC/NYC as Lite falls from the top, but I couldn't name a more deserving station that WHTZ for that #1 spot.

The important difference between the Z-100 of 1989 and the one of today is that today's Z has no competition!!! New York needs a mass-appeal CHR/Pop station (like WPST Trenton) that would exploit the Z's vulnerability of leaning so heavily in a rhythmic direction! I pine for the day that Z-100 apologizes for playing so much damn gangsta rap on their station (the same way they apologized in late '96 for veering too far in a hard rock direction)!

You have got to be kidding me!
You couldn't be more wrong about both things you said.
Z-100 is as mass appeal as you get. It doesn't lean Rhythmic by the 2007 definition of CHR radio. Have you looked at the national CHR charts? Have you looked at the playlists of other MAJOR markets? B/c guess what - Z doesn't look at whats being played in Trenton or Rockford.
As for your comment about PST - that station is a not a CHR/Pop nowdays, its an Adult CHR:

If you think PST is the ideal sound for a CHR, let alone for a market like NYC, then you have lost touch with what CHR radio is about musically.

Z100 is Rhythmic leaning? I have to respectfully disagree. Compared to most major market CHRs they're extremely balanced. In fact it's quite a praise Z100 is so balanced since there are barely any balanced CHRs in markets that size, let alone ones that do well.

And I believe WPST is a very day-parted station. i.e. By day it's a Hot AC and by night it's a Rhythmic, correct me if I'm wrong.

Or at least I know they did do that for a while at one point. Just looked at their playlist and they don't even seem like a CHR. Close to Colorado Springs's KVUU.
