Z-102 Austin's Classic Rock (WAS)

They may have played too much Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd but they were all right with me.

I recorded about three hours of unscoped airchecks of Z-102 back when they were rockin'. Maybe 2002. I always do that for a station that I like "just in case."

If anyone is interested in a trade, I can dig them out and enjoy them while dubbing for you.

I also have an unworn Z-102 Austin's Classic Rock shirt, but I may wear that some day. I can probably find some bumper stickers too.

I never hear any talk about HD in Austin, but maybe Z-102 can return on HD.

I think KLBJ-FM's shift from rock to classic rock in May is filling the void for classic rock.

Wonder if anyone will decide if KLBJ-FM's old rock format was worth having?

KPEZ's flip to AAA was kind of odd being that KGSR long has had that domain and has built up a pretty loyal fan base.

I think a well-executed rock format is worth having in this town.

Not so much a "flip" as it was a "flail". ;)

The interesting this was that Channel 102.3 never sounded much like KGSR. It was pretty much a straight classic rock station with a few newer tracts thrown in. Not even close to the "world class rock" stations around the country. As a classic rock station, it had a pretty limited playlist. I think the best thing about that station was no shift to a meaningless talk station in the morning like so many others in this town.
