Keep in mind that Z-104 is consistently one of the top rated stations in its market, and has a heritage factor going for it as well. Doesnt stop them from BREAKING NEW MUSIC that appearantly would be classified as stiffs by a couple of CHR "pros" on this board ;D

Seether, Kasper, Menudo, Saving Jane, Flobots...either unproven or stiffs...MIA is slightly relevant and may become something due to it's feature placement in "Pineapple Express".

A better example to your argument, but notice the vast difference between this station and the other 2 horrible ones you mentioned?

As far as this "unproven" talk goes - how does a "proven" hit become a hit? SOMEONE has to take the lead on new music that could work. It may not all smash, but there has to be a small leap of faith taken at some point IMO.

And keep in mind that there's a big difference between playing something that's unproven versus a stiff. Not that I agree with everyone record on that playlist, but judging by the ratings, I think Z104's PD knows what he's doing.

Point taken...lemme clarify since I shoulda said those were all stiffs and left out Seether. I say unproven on something that plays in a daypart that it's not ready for. My best friend in the biz does afternoons for a very successful CHR in a Top 30 market. He's also done the same at a Top 10 station which everyone on this site would give their left nut to work at....at his current station, his MD scheduled Three 6 Mafia to play at 3:15pm. They're a mainstream CHR...T6M hasn't proved to be a record for adult female in the format deserving of PM drive airplay at this point. Unproven...

Like I said...this is a small part of a much bigger discussion...but Z does do well. Not so sure I'd be playing "Say" by John Mayer...but if it tested like a mother before...OK.

It may be a wtf...but they have pulled in great numbers consistently for years. They do this while giving a ton of new music a shot. I have to give them credit for taking the risks...I only wish more stations could do so.

I live in the Milwaukee burbs...so it is fairly easy for me to listen to Z104 on a regular basis.
