Chimp asked, "Does WRBK really play standards"?

The answer is no, Chimp. WRBK is a terrific little non-com Oldies station. They sound great with a playlist from 1955 through 1984, at least I think that's what their promos say. No jocks, pretty good jingles and plenty of public service announcements and weather.

The only things I could criticize them for would be playing some tunes occasionally that are somewhat out of character for the oldies format(even though they were hits) and era/genre clumping-playing 2 or more songs consecutively from the same era or genre. They get a little out of balance from time to time.
Yeah, WRBK is a GREAT oldies station and they certainly don't play "standards" in the traditional sense of the word. BTW, they are not a LPFM by any means with about 8000 watts on a 700 ft tower they reach south Charlotte very well. And, to put my two cents in, we certainly don't need a right wing talker on FM.

If this little station has some legs it would be competitive in Charlotte. I listen to them often and can tell you they would be a real competitor in this market if they had a tad more power and the opportunity to sell advertising. I sometimes find them a little out of sorts for they will play some oldies that are really old. I really like that station.

I know Lanny and I figured they would change formats after three months.

Many of the classic hits played on 730 have made their way to WLON radio.

I don't know Lanny -- personally -- and I am NOT surprised he flipped the format after just a few months. I had high hopes he would give this format some time -- but I am not surprised this happened. Look no further than his track record with the Black Mtn station.

The issue is Mr. Boyd, the owner! He owns a bunch of gas stations-etc. Basically no business owning radio stations. But then again, look at the entire business. How much can we suck out of it, with little or anything put in. ;D

Well that’s another radio preset deleted. Fox Sports…give me a freaking break!
Hey Ken, Liz & GT; I enjoyed each of your shows and the oldies, even though it was a short run. Maybe one day the idiots running Charlotte radio will give us a local oldies station…but I won’t be holding my breath.
:(
Oh, yeah, I have to change my preset from 730 to 850. Only I couldn't even get 850 last time I was close enough. I did the first time I tried when they first switched. I even turned off the AC and it got really hot.
It cost me $350 to get this station off my presets!

Well, I think Mr. Boyd has been inhaling too much gas -- or he has gas -- or something.

I live in East Tennessee (Knoxville) and we have a station @ 730 AM about 20 miles from us and they bare licensed with 225w at night and I listen to Braves baseball but here lately Z-730 with fox sports has been overrunning them badly. Are they forgetting to drop their power at night or what?

Next time call me. I can do that for a lot less.
Really? How much do you charge to remove the entire dashboard and replace a motor for the air condtioner and put the entire dashboard back?

The weird thing is my FM presets were still there. But because I was on AM at the time, they all switched to 1710, which was what the radio was on when I left.

That would be extra above the original work order.

Lanny had no clue what he was doing. Hate to cast stones but he had offeres of help and refused to take it. There was zero business on the radio and think lots of it had to do with the Sales Manager who had Urban experience as a seller but no sales management experience and less than zero experience with oldies. There were lots of opportunities but nobody was home. Guess this gives Dave at the Ride another change to wake up and smell the roses.

Check sources before posting.

Oh, well, false alarm. What I mean is I saw this post pop back to the top of the forum. I looked at my watch and then my calendar -- I naturally thought, "format change". I mean this IS an HRN station and they've had sports now for about 4-5 months? In fact, they're a little past due for a format change, aren't they? Well, I'll go back to sleep now.
