Z to A countdown on WCBSFM

:) I love this week, started yesterday and WCBSFM is doing a Z to A songs. I am hearing songs I normally hear, but I also am hearing songs that I have not heard in ages, as wcbsfm does not use that format. These are O WOW songs!! They did this once before and it was a A to Z. I was hoping it would come back and this is Awsome. Take a listen, ;) I am sure you will love it!! Have a wonderful week and a safe 4th of July.

driving home tonight, at 11 PM I got to hear the Jean Terrell-led 70s Supremes blasting "Stoned Love" onto the highway; that alone was worth the price of admission; guess I missed "Up The Ladder To The Roof" but hopefullly they'll include the "River Deep Mountain High" Supremes/4 Tops team up

and they did indeed play "River Deep"...
now, when they get to the N's, if "Nathan Jones" shows up(which was also a bona fide 77WABC hit record for NYC) we'll be in CBS FM heaven totally!

Just heard "Moonlight Feels Right" from '76. Nice to know and HEAR that CBS-FM continues to amaze it audiences with spectacular specialties that select other radio stations seem to neglect. The Independence Day Z to A countdown..GREAT JOB WCBS!!

Where the heck else can you hear Dave Edmunds, Bananarama, B. J. Thomas, Michael Jackson, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Chris Kenner, Petula Clark, Olivia Newton-John, Stevie Wonder, Alicia Bridges, Andy Gibb, and an Aretha Franklin/George Michael duet within an 80-minute period listening, and hear the on-air jock getting chastised by a caller for skipping a Dusty Springfield classic?

This is the best radio station on the planet, IMHO!!

On the planet? Aren't we all getting a bit carried away? I find it pretty ironic that CBS-FM is getting unanimous love on this board but not so much over on the oldies-friendly dentist board.

Yeah..too bad "others" cannot really appreciate what oldies radio is and should be about. A reality check is seriously needed!

I guess CBS-FM would do better than HV's WBPM at 92.9 because of this rock pile crap and the successful "Music Blimp" with Randy Turnip. The Z to A countdown is fun to listen to, maybe they should add the following songs that WBPM plays such as Jefferson Starship "Find Your Way Back", Styx "The Grand Illusion", The Cars "Bye Bye Love", Jimi Hendrix "Purple Haze", Bad English "When I See You Smile", the Bangles "Hazy Shade of Winter", Journey "The Girl Can Help It", Stevie Nicks "Edge of Seventeen" and a lots more to the Z to A mix. No, this can't be. CBS-FM's HD2 which is "ToNY" is playing much of the same than WBPM does like the way "Jack" did since 2005 playing the same old rock pile, WBPM-ish, kinda music. It would like Q104 and WRXP. I don't want to hear about it so good job and kudos to CBS-FM for play more of the same like they did last year to play it in alphabetical order, now they're playing in reverse order. Good job!

More words of wisdom from ??? Disney. Let's face it, especially those that feel that the oldies format is dead, that CBS-FM is a gem! Nobody does it like they do, especially from the get-go. Remember the music montage on the day that they turned jack off?? Mindblowing and memorable, and not done 1/2ass like the rest of the "greatest hits" pukes..(these guys are afraid to use the word "oldies") Sure do hope that MGT has the support to keep this type of programming going. In the Hudson Valley, we have no oldies stations on FM. I can get CBS-FM in Fishkill. Format is up for grabs here.

KUDOS TO CBS-FM- KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!! ;D

oldies4ever :D

does anyone know if they actually did play "Nathan Jones" by the 70's Supremes?
it's great that they did play at least 3 hits by the 70s line up:
I've been listening all week, but the "N's" happened overnight into morning...

CBS-FM certainly benefited from moving from being an Oldies station to becoming a Classic Hits station... it's now around 5th or 6th in 25-54, while as an oldies station it seldom was in the top 10.

Of course, when they do the specials, they tend to drop, likely due to the presence of too many less-than-mass-appeal songs they play.

Yes, and it is needed by you. CBS-FM is not an oldies station, it is a classic hits station. Oldies are on CBS-FM's HD2 channel.

If this is true, then they would eliminate all specialties. But, as you can hear, this is not the case...for the third time around. Just enjoy the show! Most listeners like new changes from the ordinary.

And 10's of thousands of others, if not more. I probably should assume that the Top 20 countdown show by Dick Bartley will also bring down ratings too according to your anti-specialty philisophy, right?

Ok classic hits....to the listener, they are all old songs or classics.

Correct except for the HD2 part... 101.1 HD2 is "ToNY"...a Jack FM clone.

>>I find it pretty ironic that CBS-FM is getting unanimous love on this board but not so much over on the oldies-friendly dentist board.<<

Haven't you idiots figured this out, that the dentist board is only selective posting! Only what Alan wants put on the board. If you compliment CBS FM or any of their announcers he won't post. If you bash CBS FM he will post. If there is a 12mid - 6a program change on WNYC or WBGO he will post.

Alan is a raving lunatic who knows nothing about radio. Listen to his idiotic board reflections. I find it a real shame that he has attempted to fake out many people that he is some knowledgeable guru of NYC radio when at best he might be a novice for the New Rochelle market.

Trust me - all the programmers and managers pay no attention to his rants! But it is kinda funny to look at and read!

Specialty shows that play stiffs, particularly in dayparts that regular listeners expect to hear hits in, bring down ratings. The Bartley show tends to run in dayparts where there is nearly no audience anywhere in the US...like Saturday evening. Not part of the radio usage of the core cumer.

I check out the "dentist board" from time to time, though I don't post there or anything. The recent thread on CBS-FM is actually a mix of positive and negative. The guy who runs the board is definitely a blowhard though, and he has a very fixed vision of what CBS-FM should be: basically they should crank out the familiar hits, with no 50s, no early 60s, no 80s, no "stiffs," and no specials.

It's a shame I am on vacation and cannot really listen to CBS during this countdown. I hope they do it again next summer, and in fact I hope they return to better weekend specials regularly. As of late they have gone way downhill.

Have to agree, it's sounding great these days!
