My Gatesway Cue speaker output is 45 ohm. I have a transformer wich I was told that was used on that consoles. It's primary is 300-400 and it's secondary is 0-4-8 3W. I've connected it to the Cue Out pins and connected a tiny 8 ohm .5w speaker from a clock radio. The audio level is tremendously low, I must have the pot on it's full power to ear something decently. What's going wrong with this setup?... Thanks for your help!

That transformer has too big a turns ratio. Your best bet is to use a small amplifier to drive the cue speaker. The headphone output may have the same problem if you are using low-impedance headphones. An amp will cure that, too.

Most intercom systems use 45 ohm speakers. That's where I used to get them when we had Gates consoples and the guys would smoke the cue speakers. Saves the cost of an amp, too. I bet the local parts house has one which will fit.

No prob with headphones at all. I use a DT-100 2x400 ohms. It's loud and clear.

There are 40 and 100 ohms speakers available from this vendor. Maybe you can find an exact fit, or something adaptable.
