Z93 Is Getting "Outlawed"

The station was dark till This Morning.. (02/01/13)

My question is.. How long will the keep this Hybrid Format of Rock and Country before they flip it again?

This is not their first rodeo with this format: They were "Cruisin' Country" in the late 90's.

I think 93.9 was called "The Asylum". It was located in the same building as Mix 97.7, Gator 107.9, etc... The format had a small following, but its weak signal prevented it from covering a majority of Horry and Georgetown Counties.

Just my 2-cents....

Before I got to Myrtle Beach, The Asylum was on 93.5 (now Regional Mexican "La Que Buena"). I'm not sure if there was a entity on 93.9 branded as "The Asylum".

Listened yesterday, they're doing a true "outlaw" giveaway and giving away gold... as in gold bars from Goldline? ::)

Thanks for correcting me, Boston Randy. The 93.5 and 93.9 frequencies always confused me. I moved away from Myrtle Beach in January 2000. Even though I visit the Grand Strand once or twice a year, I'm amazed at how much the radio dial has changed since I left.

Maybe they can call William Devane to v/o their gold giveaway.

Nothing like having an Outlawed station, just kidding. I have and old track that's not used anymore called the outlaw, wouldn't hurt to mail it to them.

93.9 was an alternative like station in 1999. Dont remember them country
Rhythmic CHR. 93.5 was the "alternative" station, but by today's definitions it was active, not alternative.

And yes, 93.9 has done this before. It was in 1996 or 1997.

Both 93.9 and 93.7 are a waste of space. Don't understand why Cumulus doesn't pull the plug. Would save them money then keeping the signals on.

I've always wished the old WJXY 1050 would have moved to those two frequencies. Although Easy 105.9 doesn't sound all that different from how WJXY's music supplier does these days. At least when they recognize that Sinatra and Nat Cole are more important than Michael Buble and Rod Stewart.

I remember another alternative station. 107.1 the Shark. By 1999 it was 107.1 the Fox and "rock oldies".

Playlist and delivery sound okay so far; one issue in the morning, though: when the female jock Annie Oakley intros a "93-second news update" from Channel 13, it goes right to another song. It's been this way for the last few weeks, by the way.

Also 93.5, WDZD was a country station in the 1980s that had the unique position of showing up respectably in the book in both the Wilmington NC and Myrtle Beach SC markets. In those days, WDZD had a better signal into the Myrtle Beach market with 3000 watts. Not sure today but the tower/transmitter overlooked Shallotte Point not too far from the ocean.

But they weren't content with 3000 watts and asked for 25,000. For some reason that also meant moving to 103.7. Which started out as soft AC and attempted to go after Myrtle Beach listeners, then they changed to alternative rock around 2000 (around that time 93.5 FM came back as Asylum with active rock and then went very soft AC), then the frequency was the original home of "Hot Talk", then 103.7 paired up with 93.7 The Bone and Hot Talk moved to 106.3, then 103.7 moved to Wilmington and 93.7 went Hot Talk.

I know this is a old topic but didn't want to start a new topic regarding this station. But have 93.9 and 93.7 been turned off by any chance?
