Rhythmic CHR. 93.5 was the "alternative" station, but by today's definitions it was active, not alternative.viper452 said:93.9 was an alternative like station in 1999. Dont remember them country
I've always wished the old WJXY 1050 would have moved to those two frequencies. Although Easy 105.9 doesn't sound all that different from how WJXY's music supplier does these days. At least when they recognize that Sinatra and Nat Cole are more important than Michael Buble and Rod Stewart.Ken said:Both 93.9 and 93.7 are a waste of space. Don't understand why Cumulus doesn't pull the plug. Would save them money then keeping the signals on.
I remember another alternative station. 107.1 the Shark. By 1999 it was 107.1 the Fox and "rock oldies".vchimpanzee said:Rhythmic CHR. 93.5 was the "alternative" station, but by today's definitions it was active, not alternative.viper452 said:93.9 was an alternative like station in 1999. And yes, 93.9 has done this before. It was in 1996 or 1997.
But they weren't content with 3000 watts and asked for 25,000. For some reason that also meant moving to 103.7. Which started out as soft AC and attempted to go after Myrtle Beach listeners, then they changed to alternative rock around 2000 (around that time 93.5 FM came back as Asylum with active rock and then went very soft AC), then the frequency was the original home of "Hot Talk", then 103.7 paired up with 93.7 The Bone and Hot Talk moved to 106.3, then 103.7 moved to Wilmington and 93.7 went Hot Talk.trixter said:Also 93.5, WDZD was a country station in the 1980s that had the unique position of showing up respectably in the book in both the Wilmington NC and Myrtle Beach SC markets. In those days, WDZD had a better signal into the Myrtle Beach market with 3000 watts. Not sure today but the tower/transmitter overlooked Shallotte Point not too far from the ocean.
