Z95.7's launch in 1997

KOYT - that's the call sign Bonneville used during the transition period. They spent a week or two stunting, simulcasting other Bonneville stations around the country before launching the Z format.

If I recall correctly, that's the most success out of the last 14 formats on 95.7. They even got into K101's drawers and made them nervous!

I do remember the simulcast of WTMX out of Chicago.

KOYT, now that would be some confusion, since it sounds so much like KOIT.

I remember KFOG fought hard for KFOX to move away from the 104.9 frequency
becasue it sounded too much like 104.5 KFOG (104.9 KFOX)

I remember the few weeks KFOX was at 104.9, taking over for the formerly Spanish-language KBRG, with the tag, 'Take off your sombrero and stay a while...104 9 KFOX!' ;D

Ah yes! When CHR was making a resurgence after a rough patch earlier in the decade. I wish I was able to listen to the Z back then in my area (I live in Kansas). Most CHRs around here at the time leaned towards rock or adult product.

As KKHI the station wasn't exactly a slouch. They had classical music on the station for 30 years and consistently got at least a 1.3 to 1.5, which was enough to keep Buckley happy...

Z-95 was getting in the 3's in the money demo. That's why K101 was nervous. They were just barely beating them. I know...I was at K101 at the time. As an aside, the Music Director at K101 was secretly dating the PD at Z-95...

Weren't they both males? Oh wait a minute this is San Francisco. Never mind

Ha, ha. Actually...as hard as it is to believe, the supposedly most "Gay friendly" city in the USA is now Salt Lake City. Yes, that's right - Utah. Of course, SLC is a real city these days and Mormons are now in the minority there.
