Zack and Jack Show on FSR (WLPA)

the single biggest joke on national radio right now. what a disgrace that I have this garbage as an option. how in god's name does a NATIONAL network put on 2 BORING people like these dopes.    at least Stephen A Smith was entertaining (even in a bad way).......these guys are a complete waste of air. Let me be clear. I don't blame WLPA. they have no choice obviously.

god, I wish Steve Czaban could be heard in this market......but NOOOOOOOOOOO....we have the M & M show on 1350/1600.....just an awful show as well...........

Of course WLPA has a choice!! There is no ESPN affiliate in Lancaster County. 1400 in Harrisburg, 1440 in York and 1240 in Reading. I would have dropped FSN and picked up ESPN years ago.

And again.....YES...they have an option. DROP THE NETWORK. Pick up ESPN.

And if there's no other option for them then.....WHY DISCUSS IT?

I agree.. Jack & Zack suck. End of discussion.

lol @ ESPN's programming. Mike and Mike are garbage. Cowherd is awful.....SVP is the only good thing about ESPN Radio at this point.

thank god for Dan Patrick!!!!!!

Well then move Dan Patrick to AM drive. There's your solution. Of course, LPA will interrupt the show to simulcast a TV newscast at some point..which is a topic for another discussion.

WLPA has talked with ESPN, but 1440 which has ESPN is blocking it.

1440's city of license is Manchester (York County) and as the crow flies puts 1440 and 1490 too close for ESPN's liking. You cannot explain to ESPN that the stations don't compete for audience...they only look at miles, not signal patterns/strengths.

I agree that 1350 and 1600 which have SNR and Steve Czaban should be putting Czabe on the air rather than their local show. It would be a smarter programming move since Czabe has an audience here who miss him and would deal with scratchy signals to pick him up.

Problem here is this....in Hbg/Lanc/York we are all just close enough to cause problems for each other and just far enough form each other as not to step all over each other's signals.

Actually, the city of license for 1440 is Manchester Township. Lancaster is still a seperate market. If WLPA were owned by Cumulus....I don't think there would be a problem. Cumulus considers their York cluster to be York/Lancaster....so my guess is that's it's more of a Cumulus issue than an ESPN issue.

Of course if Cumulus owned WLPA they would allow both stations to have the network.

However over the last 35 years, Susquehanna when they owned WSBA, blocked Hall from any programs it could and Hall who owns WLPA blocked Susquehanna from whatever shows it could. There were some network programs that were only in Harrisburg and WHP blocked them from both WSBA and WLPA. WSBA blocked shows to WHP also. It's called keeping competition from having the same programming as you have.

Overall the networks do look at mileage and the often inflated coverage maps provided by the stations. You know, the "sales" coverage map that shows you cover Virginia to the New York border and Ohio to New Jersey with a 1 KW AM signal.

Think back to when WPDC picked up the Phillies by showing and talking about their massive coverage area. When the sun went down and you could hardly hear them from Rt. 283 across from their tower, there was outrage in the local sports community.

Actually my favorite sports programming is/was Sporting News (formerly One-On-One Sports), which WLPA used to carry

Not even sure if there is a Sporting News affialiate around here any more

1350/1600 are SNR and that whole network is complete garbage now. the only show they have is the best there is : Steve Czaban, but of course we cant get it around here

So--we'd rather some more local people lose their radio jobs to put on a syndicated show? Then we shouldn't complain about local programming disappearing.

wow. just WOW. I will respond to this when you somehow grasp the concept of how radio is supposed to work. thanks

Amish Terp, I am curious as to how radio is supposed to work. Altho I've been in this business for over 20 years, I'm always up for learning more about it especially as it changes.

so, someone is supposed to put the "local people" on even though they are horrible and not entertaining in the least over a national program that is as entertaining as they come...?

sure makes a lot of sense to me........thats a great way to do business

Pretty sure I have a few more years of radio experience than you. Here's how it works. You're entitled to your opinion, mean-spirited as it is. However, there are people who preferred to hear local sports this morning, especially with high school basketball action underway, than national sports. Programmers do not react to a handful of "experts" who think they know best. If they changed format every time they got a complaint call, they'd have a new rotation every week. While I agree Czaban is a great talent, he was not available when M and M went on the air. Thus my comment about putting local people out of work. And no, I do not work for 1350/1600.
