The studio version is okay, but I have always preferred what I heard live, to the studio version.
One of the great things about the 2007 O2 concert being released on CD this Fall, is that it allows the possibility for Rock Radio stations to play the excellent live version of "Kashmir" from that show. (I know the live tracks will surely be available for play on Sirius/XM.)
Kashmir is a rock radio staple, so playing an excellent live version of the song, should be acceptable to the radio network national programmers, who have control over what songs are played locally. Surely they don't think that their 'sheep' would turn off the station because they didn't hear the 'studio' version of Kashmir.
Apparently, some programmers think that their 'sheep' are so nervous, that they would bolt on hearing anything 'new'.
Not all live versions equal, or are better than their studio versions.
But, in the case of Zeppelin's 2007 "Kashmir", I think we have an Exception worth looking in to...
