Ziegler Out at KFI?

Tonight's (monday 11/12) LA Radio teaser email indicates that "tonight" is John Ziegler's last show on KFI. Didn't hear him tonight to see if he announced anything.

He announced that tonight was his 2nd to last show on KFI and his LAST show will be Tuesday, 11/13.

He indicated that he and KFI mutually agreed it was time for the show to end. He alluded to the idea that it was due to his inability to keep up the pace required to do the show. This I don't get.

His show was O.K. Yes, he had occasional guests and made some noise, but I always felt that it was more of a going-through-the-motions to seem to be really on top of everything kind of broadcast. That's what happens when you try too hard. I enjoy fun and witty and clever conversation on the radio. I'm not looking (or listening) for the radio version of Inside Edition--or whatever management at KFI was apparently wanting him to do.

Hey KFI management: Most people just like intelligent and clever conversation. You manage to get that most of the rest of the day, so what's with the pressure in Ziggy? Are they making him do pushups before the show?

P.S. I never liked his voice--and he should have punched Ann Coulter in the face.

I think that when he initially came to LA and was on later his shows were better, they had more fire. Lately I would agree that his shows sort of lacked the edge they once had. I recall late last year when he was doing one of his raps with Leah Brandon he made some comments about how the show was going to be changing and that he wasn't sure that he was going to be able to continue. This was some time not too long after the dust up with John Kobylt.

After that the show got kind of bland and didn't seem as good. I enjoyed his insights and for that I will miss him, but everyone moves on and Zeigler has been a somewhat nomadic in his career, I wish him the very best.

Wouldn't it be ironic if he came back to WHAS?! You want dull radio, the woman that replaced him out here has her picture next to the definition in the dictionary.

I never understood the appeal of Ziegler. As far as I'm concerned it's more of the same ol same ol'; same talking points, same guests, same tired topics, etc. Even if that's what KFI wanted, is Ziegler really the best of the breed? ???

Has Saul Levine heard about this yet? ;D

Probably but since Zig is commissioned to do a documentary he would not have the time. However a show like he did in his first couple of years would be a good contrast and complement to Michael Jackson. KGIL is going to have to do better than repeating Larry King and carrying Neal Bores. At least Dr. Joy Browne is politer and easier to listen to than her competitor on KFI though I'm not a great fan of Radio or TV psychologists.

I only wish Ziegler the very best and I will definitely miss hearing his take on the events of the day. I never noticed him always having the same guests as all the others, at least not on KFI. If you listen across the dial most of the same topics will be the discourse simply because they are on top of the news. I like to hear what everyone has to say but I will admit that the way some people present it turns me off, but that is why they invented the radio dial.

Ironic?

I think that move would depress ANYBODY enough to make them jump off a cliff.

If Francene hasn't made them jump off the 2nd street bridge yet, I doubt Zig will.

Never have heard Francene but if you want boring try Hugh Hewitt. His picture is on the page of my Funk and Wagnalls.

How do you find Hugh boring?

Well for one thing he's not Bill Handel, who can be entertaining as well as informative. He's also not Dennis Prager or Michael Jackson who to some are I guess also considered to be boring but always make you think if you take the time to listen.

He is certainly not John and Ken who love 'em or hate 'em always get your attention. The main problem I have with him though is his constant brown nosing of conservative politicos. Try as hard as he can he's not going to be the next Rush, who often infuriates but never bores.

I could go on to name Dennis Miller, Glenn Beck, Doug McIntyre, Laura Ingraham and don't forget Michael Savage who is anything but boring. Of course this is all my taste and perception and as I always say that is the reason they put the tuning dial on radios.
