Zone Drops NASCAR for Big Orange Illustrated

What are your thoughts about the zone program director switching away from a live NASCAR race with 17 laps to go, to air Big Orange show with Doug Matthews?

Bad decision in my opinion. People have gotten fired for less.

I think its bad taste for Doug Matthews to not take phone calls on his shows either.
______________

You know as well as I do that despite what they say, the reason they went with Big Orange Sunday (not Illustrated) is that's where they had sponsorship issues. They delayed it in the past, but since it is also live in Knoxville now, it couldn't be delayed (they need a TiVo). Nor could they not carry it because of sponsorships. In many ways you have to look back at the fact that the race officials chose to delay the race for so long, and perhaps should not have. But then, they don't do things with just one broadcasting station in mind.

Matthews does take callers, just not as much as the other shows.

Another example of what happens when you try to do too much. They can't be everything to everybody. This is much like them carrying the preds but shifting the preds to 560 when there is a scheduling conflict with Vandy. Which brings up another point, if they are Vandys flagship station, Why are they carrying Big Orange programing?

Because they're selling the time.
______________

Yes, its all about money over there. That's what happens when you play former athletes a boat load of money to ride the fence. Point, Doug Matthews doesn't take calls right now. Hasn't for a while. He did at one point, but doesn't now because he's friends with Fulmer and Cutcliff and doesn't want the red neck Vol fans (just saying some are, not all) to call in and ride his guest and friend. He wants to get all the time possible for spreading his spin. The Zone is a sports station and there isn't a problem with them having a show about another college, even the Vols.
