ZZ TOP/LaGrange and Johnny Cash/A boy named Sue??!!??

What is this new pd thinking????

From Braid Paisley Sap Song to DJ struggling with no talk bed into LaGrange, COLD!!!!! No set up. No Passion. No Connection. From LaGrange into some new phony wolf howl into a sappy early 90's Doug Stone song. Hummmm.

I ain't getting this. Maybe i'm dense but getting rid of Amy B and the rest for THIS?????? I've heard the Classic/Aor presentation and it ain't bad but it ain't happening with the current talent you have left. Even the dry aor/lite ac presentation works only if you have talent that sounds smoooooth.

I'm sorry, Texas Country Peeps don't want this crap!!!!!

ZZ TOP instead of Jack Ingram? Johnny Cash or Eagles instead of George Strait???? Go back to Los Angeles or Phoenix Sebastian!

But hey think of all the money CUME-LESS has saved:

Bobby Mitchell 500K

Mr.Ed 80K

Amy B 150K

Hollywood 55K

That's almost 800K annualy. The Bean Counters are smiling while the ratings and revenue plumment in market #5

Brian Phillips has got to be laffing his ass off at CMT headquaters :D and thanking his lucky stars he got out before the clowns at cumulus took over.

Another one bites the dust....

Well first of all look what's he done to WSM Nashville they're the top 5 stations in that market, he'll make an improvement here, and last but not least we needed a station that plays a mixture of classic rock & country and now we have it, so don't complain.

Whoa, hold on there, Chester...

here's a cutting from my earlier post from "New PD at the Wolf"...

"Sebastian is known for going to a station, "tweaking" it, then leaving after spending a year there. He'll leave bragging about taking the station to its best ratings ever. Keep in mind the only reason WSM had one good book with Sebastian in charge is that Nashville was curious about he was going to do with it. Thanks to an agressive ad campaign, people tuned in long enough for WSM to be #1 country in Music City. Shortly after that, people weren't impressed with AC rock songs and jocks with no personality. "

Mixing country with classic rock sounds cool, but stations with that hybrid format don't last.

Even if it does work, if the jockless/low-key personality approach becomes the norm in broadcast radio I don't see any reason why the FCC should block the satcasters from offering local content on their terrestrial repeaters. After all, they wouldn't be doing anymore of a disservice to the community than programming approaches like this one do.

I don't have a problem with some classic rock getting mixed in...but why add a bunch of old sappy country songs to the list as well. KPLX sounds like a country KVIL "Lite FM" version now...

I still don't understand why much of the Texas country music was ejected from the playlist a while back. It seems like you could add that back, mix in a few classic rock songs, and bring back some personality to make KPLX a better station again.

If he wants to pepper the wolf with pop stuff he'd be better off with Faith Hill, Shania Twain, Garth, Martina, Carrie Underwood, etc Keep it COUNTRY though not Rock AC or Classic Rock.

The first voice i heard at 5am was some yahoo i swear he sounded like some immature no experienced jock. Really really bad. I don't want to sound so critical but shi* this IS market #5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What worked in LA or Nashville or Chicago doesn't mean it'll work in Dallas....Especially at a station like the Wolf that has branded itself to be as Texas as Wolf Brand Chili. It's not like there aren't 4 or 5 OTHER stations in the market playing the classic rock stuff. I think classic country titles sprinkled in would be of more benefit than classic rock.

Everyone... this is Texas. Despite the aformentioned major markets, there is no state in the Union that relishes in its country music more than this one. Yes, Market #5. Yes, real country music lovers. And now, yes, Idiots that think they understand the market and will use stupid, niche marketing to beef up a resume...ER...format and split town before the stink hits the fan. Country and Rock only belong together in a Donny and Marie song.

What's so wrong with friggin' country, Sebastian. Good night. Where are the 80s when you need them?

Its that "La's fine and the sunshine all the time and the feeling is laid back, and have you read a story about a frog who dreamed of being a king and became one"? The format is "Sebastian to go" A drive thru format, where you get your order screwed up,and the speaker sounds lousy

I'm still trying to figure out why charles123 thinks this market "needed a station that plays a mixture of classic rock & country". Needed?

Seems to me this market needs less "tweak".

There's not a station around here that plays a mix of classic rock and country.

In my opinion for this type of format to work, you’d have to program it very, very carefully. For example going from Jack & Diane by John Cougar into I Will Be There from Dan Seals might work. Given how much attention to detail required pulling this off, could cost real money, as a very musically experienced programmer would likely be needed. I doubt CC et al would care to invest into something like this, since it cuts into their precious bottom line. Consult and randomize the format? I'd give it no more than one book.

I would never play Dan Seal's I will be there anyway, YOU can play it :D.... I also would not play Jack and Diane on Country!!! Duh!

I would play a few cuts from Creedence Clearwater revival, some from
John Mellencamp,Eagles, some great classic country cuts, plus some Texas talent..Asleep at the Wheel,Willie,Waylon, Ray Wylie Hubbard,Micheal Murphy. I did it before and the results were great in the long run( not a reference to an Eagles Song).

OK everyone.... Laffer doesn't like Dan Seals. Noted and filed for future research.

Oh and Laffer...

We DID play it when it was new back in the late 80's. ;D

Robert,

I never said i didn't like Dan Seals. Most of his stuff isn't played anymore on radio. Most AC's stay away from 99% of his music. There may be one or two at the most that stations will play. Most of the heavily RESEARCHED stations won't play his stuff.
Classic Country rarely plays Meet Me In Montana, Ac rarely plays I wanna be bop...

But hey you're the resident expert on here...i yield the floor to you.

Laffer,

Relax, and have a cold drink on me. I was just sharing a little humor with you. :)

I was hoping my devilish grin at the end of my post reflected this. Guess I was wrong... :(
