Okay, I'll start things off.

Who's hiring these days?? Anybody know? I see KVOO/Tulsa is looking for on-air talent for a potential mid-day opening. I wonder what they mean by "potential"? I mean, I know what the word "potential" means, but in this particular case, how is it meant? Is someone there about to be let go or something?

Okay, now it's somebody else's turn..............

KITO AM/FM in Vinita sold to Mid-America Ag Networks out of Wichita for $900,000 yesterday. I would have never thought it would have garnered that type of money...

I guess times, they are a changing. That buy would be a good fit for Mid America. Greg Strickline, who I think is a brother to the Mid America Strickline, bought KMYR 1410 in Wichita for about 1.4 million. The amazing thing about that transaction is that the KMYR transmitter plant had previously burned to the ground. Nothing left but towers and ATu's. The station is being rebuilt, but last I heard, the buyer is footing the bill. Add about 300,000 in reconstruction costs and you have a mighty big price for a highly directional station in that market.

It amazes me how much people will pay for even the smallest of stations where it's a stuggle just to make a profit.

Yeah, those prices are pretty ridiculous. Of course, the Stecklines are loaded. It's a small drop in the bucket for them. However, no one can blame Agape (KMYR) or DLB (KITO) for selling at those prices.

The licence is always more valuble than the property. Thats why people will pay outrageous amounts for little signals. ABC paid Entercom 2 Million for KQAM 1480 three years ago to get Radio Disney in Wichita. That left a lot of head scratching up there.

I guess some people believe IBOC or another kind of digital broadcasting will eventully save AM radio.

Agape was in a bind after the 1410 building burnt down. They didnt have the money to rebuild and get a new 5K transmitter on the air. Selling it was the only option. They were broadcasting 250w non-directional for over a year.

Its a shame the original 1410 tranmitter building burned down. I spent many nights there hanging out there with DJ freinds when it housed KEYN-FM (Power 104) and KQAM (oldies) in the mid 80's.

Does anyone but me remember that the "LS" in WWLS stands for Larry Steckline, from when he owned it in the '70s? Just a little trivia...

Yeah.. and he talked the FCC into letting him have the WWLS calls well after they didn't issue W west of the Missisippi too. He HAD to have known someone to get that deal done. To this day it still amazes me that he was able to do that.
