Off of the Radiowatch website:
"KCBS-FM 93.1 is no longer Arrow93, but is now Jack-FM, a spinoff of a new format featured in a lot of cities, particularly in New York, Houston, and cities in Canada."
Note that this was before the WCBS-FM flip this past weekend!
BTW, I agree that a flip to Jack by KROI on July 1 would inject a little excitement into the Houston radio scene. I foresee July 1 as a day that may bring a change or two to Houston radio...
Also, with regard to Guy Z's analysis of the Jack format, he brings up a lot of valid issues; nevetheless, in the hands of the right programmer, as long as the format is not allowed to become stale through the use of everchanging promotions, contests, continuous music tweaking and the like, there is no reason why a Jack format can't last as long a Mix, which, in Houston, as I remember, has been reaged at least twice in 12 years. In virtually every market, Jack has zoomed ratings in the desired male 25-49 demo in the first or second book. ...Infinity obviously has seized on the format as the next big thing in radio...these guys just don't arbitrarily kill a top 10 oldies station with a 30-year legacy (CBS-FM) without having an idea what they are doing...we all know that Paul Berlin's crowd and the next generation Baby Boomers are going to die off sooner than Generation X...
