Off of the Radiowatch website:

"KCBS-FM 93.1 is no longer Arrow93, but is now Jack-FM, a spinoff of a new format featured in a lot of cities, particularly in New York, Houston, and cities in Canada."

Note that this was before the WCBS-FM flip this past weekend!

BTW, I agree that a flip to Jack by KROI on July 1 would inject a little excitement into the Houston radio scene. I foresee July 1 as a day that may bring a change or two to Houston radio...

Also, with regard to Guy Z's analysis of the Jack format, he brings up a lot of valid issues; nevetheless, in the hands of the right programmer, as long as the format is not allowed to become stale through the use of everchanging promotions, contests, continuous music tweaking and the like, there is no reason why a Jack format can't last as long a Mix, which, in Houston, as I remember, has been reaged at least twice in 12 years. In virtually every market, Jack has zoomed ratings in the desired male 25-49 demo in the first or second book. ...Infinity obviously has seized on the format as the next big thing in radio...these guys just don't arbitrarily kill a top 10 oldies station with a 30-year legacy (CBS-FM) without having an idea what they are doing...we all know that Paul Berlin's crowd and the next generation Baby Boomers are going to die off sooner than Generation X...

If Jack were presented like Guy had set up the original Mix, I could see Jack having some staying power. But I don't see the format lasting as long as Mix has if all they do is remain a jukebox.

There's a lot of things wrong with radio in 2005, but I don't see Jack addressing most of those problems.

Once the novelty of TLC, the Beastie Boys, and the Beatles being on the same station wears off they're going to need more than a new set of smart-ass liners.<P ID="signature">______________

Yeah right - rumor is they got burned in Philly by Greater Media on flipping WOGL to Jack, so they decided to get the most press by blowing up the best oldies station ever (allthogh by 2005 it was a sad shadow of itself).

Wait - biig difference between 80 year olds and 50-60 year olds. Boomers still have a good 20 years left. Plus theres people like me who keep the oldies alive.

Wow, Chuck! Your words almost 15 years ago... Rumors of demise must've been greatly exaggerated. You're like that Energizer Bunny!

Yeah, you're right John. Dont know what I was thinking.

Wow! A lot of changes since then. KNTH was only a few months old at the time. WE flipped almost 10 years ago in December 2004. That's when I was working on two stations and doing video depositions for attorneys around time. I was at 95.7 The Wave, KHJZ from December 2002-February 2007. I also did some board op work for FM Newschannel 97.5 during this time, as well.
