defunct boston stations that need another chance???

It was "The Touch"
That is a 24/7 Syndicated Format from Citadel Media Networks. They broadcast live online from "The Touch 95.3" Harrisburgh, Pa

"The Touch" was broadcast on 1150 AM in this area for a year or so about 12 years ago. I don't remember "The Touch" on 890, though it may have been on so briefly that I missed it!

I also remember around 1991 that WUMB played soft R&B a.k.a. "Quiet Storm" at night. They played folk until 7:00 then had NPR news then "Quiet Storm". The more I think about it, I think this is a viable option for the moribund WXKS-AM. Clear Clannel already plays a format called "Slow Jams" on many of their stations.

And definitely the pre-Radio One WILD(on FM and the Internet), but only if they go 24/7/365. (Get rid of Tom Joyner and Brother Andre!)

Damn! You beat me to it! It's amazing how an AM daytimer could spawn so many major people in the radio and record industry. Steven Hill; Elroy Smith; Ken Johnson; Dana Hall; Pebbles; Free; plus a ton more people still doing things on the air and behind the scenes. If you sell the lifestyle of the upscale, upwardly mobile Urban professional, and not the ratings, it would do as well as WFNX…

Let's not forget that Sunny Joe White was there also-both as jock and Program Director. Indeed, he was on the air there the day he died-and signed the station off early because he was sick.

WEZE as Solid Gold Z-1260 had a pretty good lineup, in addition to Colmes and Neil Gran/Cannon, Bill Lowell, Keith Simmons and Bob Stuart did regular shifts, the news people were Wally O'Hara (the prototype for Bob and Ray's "lly Ballou") and Paul Cunningham who was a veteran newsguy with credibility. For a while they had a young Linda Albin who is now the ABC Radio person in London.

All live from the Statler\

In this era, the station was owned at first by Bill ? McCormack who had been sales manager for WNAC-TV under RKO General and sold the company to TechOps

After its gold days it went back to beautiful music again, flipping right before Xmas, and went through an album-oriented phase either right before or right after its AOL incarnation, I forget which, which ended up being another failure from Clark Schmidt.

Speaking of very brief formats, WBOS's stab at AOR in 81ish.
I worked at BOS during that time. I spent that summer driving the Valvoline/BOS Corvette to ADAP Auto Supply stores and other sponsors. The station brought in Tyler Reinsmith for mornings, he had been a Billboard Magazine DJ of the year. Tyler moved over to 98.5 for a short time. Reportedly, he was let go for missing his morning drive shift more than once and giving traffic jams as his excuse.

AM 1510 when Dana Hersey did mornings was a great little station. I think they were under control of a Bankruptcy Trustee at the time by the name of Ansel Chaney.
WCAS was another great AM. 590 EEI when owned by CBS was first class and WMRQ was an interesting listen.

I definitely do remember Z-1260 WEZE in 1973! I found myself listening to them more than WRKO and WMEX that year too! A great station that was around for too short a time!!!! Eventually they ended up going to kind of a personality AC/Oldies format in 1974 (yawn) before reverting to Oldies in early 1975 and than back to beautiful music at the end of the summer in 1975....
Are you referring to "Album 1260"? That wasn't AC/Oldies, it was more like an AC version of AOR, lots of deep cuts from albums by Atlanta Rhythm Section, Carly Simon and the like, even deeper than WEEI-FM would go. IIRC, that format ended when the station was sold (to Salem?) and went all-Jesus.

It was an early version of the format that later became known as Triple-A ("AAA"), Adult Album Alternative.

I would like to see an audio version of V66
A blend of album rock and dance music for those who liked both genres and wanted to hear both genres on one station

Not a Boston station but not too far away. The simulcast of WGIR AM-FM Manchester NH in the mid 70s. A major market sounding news department with news blocks in AM and PM drive, AC music in between and talent like Bob Lobel and Susan Wornick before they made it big in Boston. A Knight Quality Group Station :)

Did anyone ever notice that any station Clark was involved with always played House at Poo Corner by Loggins and Messina an awful lot. ? I don't think it was ever a big hit but WEEI-FM played so much and before that WEZE and even for a short while WBOS when it flipped to an adult AOR in 1989. :)

Pooh Corner, please!

Was Clark (Smidt) involved with WEZE? I certainly remember hearing it on all three stations you mentioned, and even on WBZ(AM), although it may have been only during Robin Young's weekend show. I just assumed it was an AC hit, like Loggins' solo follow-up, "Return to Pooh Corner," years later, but it didn't hit any chart at all.
