KABC Format Change

KCLM in Prescott is close to pure Beautiful.

One of the only opportunities to respectfully correct David...

The calls are KAHM. They call it "Calm". And it's actually quite good.

It has a strong signal in Phoenix, too. I stumbled upon it by accident while trying to find something to replace KUPD on my car radio and thought it was a local Phoenix station and I was amazed that there is even a station that still broadcasts what I call "Dentist's Office Music." I shook my head and moved on.

As a matter of fact I spent a wonderful time in my dentists office in Cottonwood yesterday being calmed to calm sounds of KAHM - he was distressed when I told him KAHM was going to move it's transmitter site to near Crown King and most likely wouldn't be a clear signal in Cottonwood anymore - the signals from that site do not come in clearly in the upper Verde Valley. The staff commented that they wouldn't mind not hearing the English accented female voice anymore ...

Management decided that they can be content with that 0.7 share and 37th-place ranking. :)

In the PPM era...with real LISTENERS....do call letters MATTER anymore? (Since *most* people would never be here debating the subject...)

From All Access, 8/3 (http://www.allaccess.com/power-player/archive/17247):

What are the long-term plans for WABC-A/New York and KABC-A/Los Angeles -- WABC without Rush and Hannity, KABC without Hannity. Will both remain Talk stations, of will flip one or both of them to one of the Sports networks, or something else?

John Dickey: They will both remain Talk stations and will have an opportunity to be more local in the markets they serve. You will see some great hyper-local talent surface. Rush is great and we are happy to be in business with him, and he's very strong. But both WABC and KABC are serving large communities and we will invest in local programming to make these stations better.

Palm Springs still has a "Beautiful Music" station - KWXY, which featured famed LA DJ Dave Hull, until his recent retirement. KWXY was on the FM dial, but has now moved to AM only.

I sense a pattern here - Florida, Phoenix, Palm Springs - places people retire to - including those old enough to have a long appreciation for that kind of music. Even elevators don't play "elevator music" anymore.

Correction KWXY was on AM for many years, started out that way

No one can say that Brian Suits lacks confidence! He says he'll be the man to knock KFI's Rush Limbaugh out of the top spot in the ratings. Time will tell. After nearly five years at KFI, Suits is taking his "Dark Secret Place" program to KABC. He'll be on from 9 to noon.

Heh, Heh, Heh Heh, Heh, Heh, uuuuuuhhhhh, okay.

Former KMPC host Roger Carroll is also skeptical of Suits' claim. His brief e-mail appears on LARadio.com: "Bryan Suits is a different breed of cat. He should wait until he beats Rush Limbaugh, then take praise. I will kiss his ass at Sunset and Vine at noon if he beats Rush." Now I hope Bryan doesn't beat Rush!

When did he say that? I know he's moving to KABC in the 9 to noon slot, but I didn't read anything about him saying that part. If he did say it, he must have been joking. It's not like him to take himself that seriously.
