The sendoff or lack of one, depends on the situation when the employee leaves the station. Someone who is well liked with the viewing public and has secured a new position in a higher market would probably get a sendoff (i.e. Jodi Applegate when she joined NBC in New York). If the employee is jumping ship to another station in the same market, I would think it would be kept quiet with very little fan fare. Then there is the situation where a station does not wish to extend the contract of an employee either due to lack of performance or just does not fit into the station's "mold" and usually they just disappear with the statement that "is not longer working at K%$^. We wish him/her well in their future endeavors" or "is pursuing other interests away from this station".
