Hannity losing Fox time-slot to Megan Kelley?

Maybe you watch your children grow up or you sing Harry Chapin's sad song.

Moving Hannity is probably a tacit acknowledgement that the FNC audience is so old and near death that they have to start making long-range plans to target generations that didn't grow up watching the evening news with their parents and get their news largely from the internet and news aggregation sites like Huffington Post. No, it won't happen any time soon, but their audience isn't getting any younger and right wing views being pushed on their primetime programs are not extremely popular with younger audiences so something has to give. Isn't the same thing essentially happening with conservative talk radio?

There is a shelf life to this type of programming, especially since they've been largely unsuccessful at courting a younger audience. A 30 year old in 2013 is much more likely to be a liberal than a 30 year old in 1983 or 1963 or even 1943, so where do they go from here?

how many college Republicans watch FNC? ;D, the conservative movement isn't getting any younger or diverse, Obama didn't need the white vote, less advertisers want to take a risk advertising on his show since his audience is getting closer to the grave, that wasn't an issue 20 years ago,

I don't see Kelly pulling in big ratings on her show. Morgan may actually be able to challenge her whereas Hannity has wiped the floor both with him and Larry King.

She's nice, smart and pretty but until now she's been basically a news reader and interviewer, not a commentator. Not sure she can carry a personality centered show. We'll see.

You may be right, but I think the current philosophy of cable new broadcasters is that young and handsome/pretty trumps older/not so pretty - for attracting the desirable younger demographic. Fox News skews pretty old in terms of their current audience, if I recall. Having said that, old Sean ain't a half bad looking guy, though his face has filled out quite a bit in recent years, and his hair is graying. He's (gasp!) 51.

I'm not sure why this philosophy reigns. I grew up with old rumpled Walter Cronkite, Eric Severeid, Harry Reasoner, etc - and never felt like I had to have somebody younger talking to me.

Yes, but you grew up in an age when news was journalism and the fourth estate. Now news is part of the entertainment division and talks about the Kardashians like they're newsworthy. We can't be having an old, ugly person telling us about all these important pretty, young women.

Actually, you grew up in an age when there was only three channels and young people didn't have much choice in the news they watched. Worth noting that all of the big three newscasts are helmed by reasonably old people.

I'd love to see a newscast that's engaging for young people without insulting their intelligence or being shallow or vapid. Keith Olbermann's show was a Fox News-type show young people could enjoy.

they wouldn't watch, they'd be going after a demographic that isn't there to begin with

Hannity is noticeably being preempted more and more over the last couple of weeks. Tonight is a prime example. He was preempted by a 9/11 remembrance special (on 9/4?). Sounds like Hannity is taking all his vacation or throwing a tantrum. His ratings are very high. Don't know why they would replace him. O'Reilly still has the top ratings, followed by Hannity. Greta is #7 in all cable prime in key demos. She's not moving. Can't believe nothing has leaked out. Hannity must be in the throws of being re-positioned into another time slot. I'm sure there's lots of money being thrown around to keep him quiet.

Add to that Elisabeth Hasslebeck coming to "Fox & Friends", and Gretchen Carlson moving to Kelly's daytime slot.

So FNC's afternoon/evening lineup will be:

1-3p - Gretchen Carlson
3p - Shepard Smith Reports
4p - Your World with Neil Cavuto
5p - The Five
6p - Special Report with Bret Baier
7p - Megan Kelly
8p - O'Reilly Factor
9p - Hannity
10p - Greta

So much for all the 'Hannity is being demoted' talk.
Regarding this new schedule, after reading that Shep was only giving up his evening program, I saw another article which said he was giving up his afternoon gig as well.

Shame about fox report, as Shepard Smith is one of the few objective reporters at that network. So looks like FNC is gonna lose one of its rare trustworthy news hrs for more opinionated talk.

No Shep also gets 4pm and the Fox Report is staying at 7pm and will be breaking in thru out the day when theirs Breaking News. Know when FNC is covering like a T. Attack in USA Plane Crash,President speaking,Bombing at a Major Event like maybe World Series or so on then it's Bret Blair,Shep and so on.

According to Fox, this is the actual prime-time lineup, starting October 7 (all times Eastern):

7 p.m. – On the Record with Greta Van Susteren
8 p.m. – The O’Reilly Factor
9 p.m. – The Kelly File
10 p.m. – Hannity

And here I thought Shepard Smith was taking time for surgery while the gettin' was good.

What if they made these changes and nobody cared? I'm 50 and I don't plan my evening around what is on FNC, CNN, or MSNBC for that matter. If I'm home and there's nothing in primetime tv or on-demand, I might watch one of the news channels.

For the most part, I think FOX News agrees with you and is making its adjustments to court the news viewer who has recently switched to a resurgent CNN in the evenings.
