NOW they're in trouble!
What if CBS shocked everyone and Flipped 92.3 to Country it would be lights out for 94.7
Of course the overall ratings do not tell us whether CBS Radio is satisfied with how WNOW is doing with the demos they are trying to reach with it, and the revenue the station produces.
If it were to be replaced, a problem would be what format to choose. It seems based on recent history that most of the formats that are not currently being aired in New York may be even less successful than 92.3 Now.
Perhaps it may be worthwhile to bring back Jack FM, this time on 92.3. Jack had rather decent ratings in New York while it was on a few years ago. And it could fill a hole for a station playing more recent rock than Q104.
"However this is NY and CBS is about money,"
I'd venture to say you can replace "NY" with any other market and "CBS" with any other operator and you'd have a true statement anywhere in the country. It is, and will always be, about money.
Duh. My summation point there is points in NYC no doubt matter more/worth more than points in other markets.
We really need a rock format in NYC. We dont even have a classic rock. Can't even consider Q104 classic rock, never heard any other classic rock station consider playing Rocket Man, Me & Julio, and Sweet Home Alabama all day long without hearing any harder stuff or hair hands from the 80s. Not even Ozzy? Q is NOT Classic Rock. That's classic hits. Q is just being used by CC along with Lite and the 80s to siphon listeners from CBS-FM.
Sure wish CBS would flip WNOW to Active Rock, but we all know that lucrative CHR market with those young ppl even though I can hear the same drivel on at least 5 other stations in NY. NYC radio is so bad I dont even bother listening anymore, its mp3s and internet radio. The AM/FM only gets use outside of NYC and when I'm further east on LI where I can hear WBAB, WWSK, WRCN, and WPLR where I can hear actual rock music. What NYC needs is a new player, if only 99.5 would just go belly up and someone like Cumulus could pick it up...but the useless waste of WBAI just won't die..
Exactly. I have said that to people also, that Q104 is classic hits and is NOT a classic rock station. NY really lacks a full time active rock, alternative and classic rock station. It is ridiculous.
Yeah, radio in NY is bland because they care more about ratings and money than catering to an audience.

Denver, which is just as diverse, but a smaller population (around 3.5mil metro), has 5 rock stations: an alternative station with a 4.7, classic rock 4.5, aaa 4.3, another classic rock station at 4.2, and an active rock station with a 3.3.
Do rock audiences buy anything that advertisers might be offering besides head shops and gentleman's clubs?
