The Artist Formerly Known as Huggy
I don't read these boards as much as I used to...since I'm in semi-retirement? So, after at least a year or so I decided to see what was going on in my beloved hometown's radioland. It was most surprising to see Matt and I mentioned at all! Being gone so long, I'm assuming everyone has forgotten us...and that station we were once on. As a previous poster mentioned I did move to Boston area and did some weekend radio on a big talk station. However, it wasn't the same as what we were trying to do in Philly. I toughed it out for 3 years in Boston and then one saturday I quit live on the air...and it was great! I haven't touched a microphone in 3 years and the last time I was on the air I called into DeBella's 30th anniversary show...ok, I did try to win tickets to see Prince once but I wasn't the right caller.
When we transitioned to talk on YSP, we never really given a chance to succeed, we were never promoted or marketed and actually never officially got the slot...but somehow we stuck it out and went from being appalling to just plain bad...that was quite a bit of growth. I never thought anyone was listening except Matt and I...and sometimes I'm not sure Matt was even listening. But being on the air in your hometown...what a great feeling. We didn't have the polished experience of Barsky and his crew and we certainly weren't as cutting-edge and buzz-worthy as Kidd Chris, but we forged a little something, and for that I'm proud.
Currently, I work in real estate (doesn't every ex radio person?) and in my spare time I pursue my other passion; Hebrew folk dancing...ok, actually it's writing.
Although, being on the radio again in Philly would be fun...
