We need more talk

WHYY isn't a Talk station. It's a news station like KYW with a more national skew. Where are the call-in shows?

I don't think they're overtly liberal, it just sticks out more because its not so Republican like every other station.

Does Rush take calls? Today, most of the talk shows are just talk, ie, one person talking, rather than conversation. Yes, there's a lot of talk on WHYY, but there's also Fresh Air, which is conversation.

There is a real talk station in the area: NJ 101.5. It has an audience. It makes money. It's been doing both for more than 20 years. It doesn't shove an ideology in your face. It's local. It has real personalities. It's a winning formula the industry has ignored. Even if you don't live in Jersey, it's real radio.

That's what this thread is about. You can use whatever word you want. The point is it's not WPHT. So there IS another talk station in Philly. The posters in this thread apparently don't know about it. They'd rather rant continuously in dozens of threads about one station than simply trying another station. It's really very simple.

I agree. But there's no need to drag your opinion of what constitutes "adult" into the discussion. It's different. That's all that needs to be said.

The Artist Formerly Known as Huggy

I don't read these boards as much as I used to...since I'm in semi-retirement? So, after at least a year or so I decided to see what was going on in my beloved hometown's radioland. It was most surprising to see Matt and I mentioned at all! Being gone so long, I'm assuming everyone has forgotten us...and that station we were once on. As a previous poster mentioned I did move to Boston area and did some weekend radio on a big talk station. However, it wasn't the same as what we were trying to do in Philly. I toughed it out for 3 years in Boston and then one saturday I quit live on the air...and it was great! I haven't touched a microphone in 3 years and the last time I was on the air I called into DeBella's 30th anniversary show...ok, I did try to win tickets to see Prince once but I wasn't the right caller.

When we transitioned to talk on YSP, we never really given a chance to succeed, we were never promoted or marketed and actually never officially got the slot...but somehow we stuck it out and went from being appalling to just plain bad...that was quite a bit of growth. I never thought anyone was listening except Matt and I...and sometimes I'm not sure Matt was even listening. But being on the air in your hometown...what a great feeling. We didn't have the polished experience of Barsky and his crew and we certainly weren't as cutting-edge and buzz-worthy as Kidd Chris, but we forged a little something, and for that I'm proud.

Currently, I work in real estate (doesn't every ex radio person?) and in my spare time I pursue my other passion; Hebrew folk dancing...ok, actually it's writing.

Although, being on the radio again in Philly would be fun...

It's the only one that tells the truth. Glenn Beck is popular enough he can get listeners to pay for TheBlaze.com. Can your station do that?

Hey, I have nothing against Glenn Beck. I think what he's doing with The Blaze is a smart move. But it's not the "most popular radio network". That would be Clear Channel.

Who runs Glenn Beck.

I'm not even sure The Blaze is actually on the radio. It seems to be a podcast network. So it's not even radio. (His TV network is actually on TV.)
