WQTT Stunt

Sounds like radio of yesterday when DJ's pulled pranks like that all the time.. I can't fault WQTT trying to drive up some publicity for their little AM station.. In fact in today's world of voice tracked, canned liner reads... I have to give him credit for havin' a little fun!

It's a shame they can't get off of that graveyard frequency. Maybe in so doing they could have ended up with 1 kW non-directional and trash that bastardized antenna system. Trash all the towers but one and feed it ND day and night. A pipe dream for sure but if ya gonna dream, might as well dream BIG ;D

Whatever happened to the new transmitter plans? Did they go out the window when St. Gabriel moved?
Very glad to see WQTT serving Union County. So long overdue on that frequency (I'll always think of it as WUCO!).

Being from the Marysville area, I'm glad to see 1270 come back locally. They are doing a great job with it. Being Facebook friends with them, I see guests doing interviews all the time. I just hope they make enough money to grow. What would really be ideal is if Saga would sell it's 104.3 site to the WQTT owners. 1270 is spotty in the northwestern parts of the county. 104.3 blasts all around the area pretty well. Kind of do like 101.7 does. Remain "local" to Marysville, yet pick up some listeners in the Dublin/Columbus area.

Resurrecting an old topic, but wanted to mention a few things. First, still liking what I am hearing on 1270 for the most part ... outside of whatever this new afternoon talk show is. Was driving up toward Upper Arlington yesterday and heard some guy just ranting on and on about an email he received for about 20 minutes. Just kept going. Anyone know anything about this? I haven't been able to find info, but probably just looking in the wrong place.
Luckily, I tuned back later and there was music. I was really afraid for a few minutes that the format had changed.
Also, wanted to throw a reception report on here ...
Was driving back a week ago yesterday morning from Zanesville down U.S. 40 and figured I'd listen to see how the battle went between WQTT and Cambridge's WILE. WILE and its ESPN Radio programming are dominant in Zanesville, of course, but by the time you hit the Muskingum-Licking County line, you can hear WQTT starting to creep in underneath. Within five miles (think around mile marker 137 or 138 on I-70, to which I was driving parallel), it was quite a fight. WQTT's strength increases rapidly, and by the time I hit Jacksontown, neither station was listenable but I was able to hear "You Didn't Have to be So Nice" by the Lovin' Spoonful on WQTT. By Hebron, four miles west of Jacksontown, it was all WQTT with only an occasional fade in signal. WILE was underneath, but not at all listenable.
Here where I live, right by 256 and 70, it's much the same situation as in Hebron, except WQTT is stronger and there's still the slightest trace of WILE.
For my part, I'm just glad WQTT never reverted to that old day pattern where you couldn't hear it in Columbus at all.

It looks like they have a new talk show on 5-7 in the afternoons.

That would explain it. I didn't hear commercials for a 15-minute span (although I switched away a few times), which was what scared me re. a format change until I heard music later. But hey, at least he's local. I'll give his show a shot sometime. I suppose he is paying for the time?

I am guessing so.. I was listening to their web stream early this morning when it had the "True Oldies Channel" so there is still plenty of oldies to be heard on 1270... I would guess he's buying the time.. Naturally for a small market AM they are willing to do what it takes to pay the bills.. Just look at 1550 WDLR constantly being LMA'ed out.

How can the Rick Rantz make any money buying time on WQTT? Listened to the show yesterday and noticed also has producer. Liked the show but don't see it lasting with the limited signal
of WQTT. Maybe it's a labor of love for him? ???
has a producer

Has anyone noticed a poorer signal from WQTT recently in parts of Columbus? I know I can't hear it nearly as well on 270 between Reynoldsburg and Easton. Are they back to protecting WILE?

Resurrecting something of an old thread ...
Noticed this afternoon that WDLR is simulcasting WQTT. Maybe the Spanish-language format is gone for good. I am guessing an oldies format is more relevant to Delaware but who knows?

I haven't listened to much of the oldies programming on 1550, just enough to know it's the same as 1270. I don't know if the 1270 IDs are covered on 1550 by WDLR IDs.
They'll also have both ends of Ohio baseball covered ... 1270 with the Reds and 1550 with the Indians. 1270 also will be carrying Buckeye football in the fall; not sure about 1550 (Edit: Judging from WDLR's website, they will have Buckeye football). These stations are getting more and more like they were in the 90s, and that's a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

Agreed - Looks like ICS is trying to do some "local" radio with their stations.. WDLR's sister station Classic Rock 95.1 WVXG now has a local morning show for Marion.

Anyone know what happened with Rick Rantz? Show hasn't been on WQTT in about three weeks. Did they finally say he'd crossed the line? Could be funny but I can see how he'd offend people, especially in a smaller town like Marysville.
