Pirate, Dx, Pipeline, "Now 102"?

I was driving south on I-5 today near Joint Base Lewis McCord, only to be greeted to a radio station that I had never heard of before. The exact frequency was 101.9, and their format appeared to be CHR. Unfortunately, I was only able to catch the end of one song, a bumper that said "This is NOW 102", followed by the start of another song before going back to KINK. Do you guys have any idea of what this is?

Hmm I thought it might be a station in Edmonton or Dallas but they are 102.3 and 102.9 so it could be a pirate

I think it might have been my first FM dx. The signal took over KINK for about one minute and completely vanished. I thought it might be CFUV from Victoria at first, but CFUV doesn't brand themselves as "Now 102". If it was a pirate, I probably would have heard it at some other point while I was driving (therefore I am ruling that out as a possibility).

I am going to continue the hunt for what this station could be. They played "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon five followed immediately by "Brokenhearted" by Karmin. This MUST be a CHR.

I think you are right! I picked up that station a couple times in Bothell when they were KUJJ running Smooth Jazz years ago. Down by JBLM, check 91.1, 92.9 and 101.7. KYPL 91.1, KDBL 92.9 and KLES 101.7 boom in down there. Mt. Rainier has something to do with it I think.
Also, check out Downtown Shelton - 106.5 The Eagle in Richland comes in like a local. Ditto with KUJ 99.1 and KDBL 92.9.

What do you mean by your first DX?

I have been trying to pick up some real dx's on the FM dial (as opposed to tropo signals). I don't think picking up KZIU counts, as that is just a "knife edge" (or something to that effect). I'm commuting in that direction often now, so I will find out if KZIU breaks in again.

He probably wants to get on some of those E-skip openings. IMO knife edge is DX. If I can't hear KZIU anywhere in Seattle except for one location, I think it is DX.

To me, because of my local topography, even tropo is 'DX', if it's something I don't hear more than a few times a year. Never heard E-skip on FM. Just on the high HF frequencies, and VHF low band.

It very much is a knife edge around JBLM. I get Yakima and Kennewick on the WSP freqs bouncing off the mountain. In digital too!

Try Shelton! I posted a bandscan a year ago and I had KDBL, KYPL, KUJ, KEYW, KEGX and possibly KFAE from central Washington.

I consider anything I can't usually hear as DX, whether that be tropo to Vancouver or Victoria or the rare E-Skip opening which I had better get at least one of this season, as that's the hole reason for the G8. I'm not sure if I should consider CKZZ DX on the G8 since they're pretty regular.

I don't consider Portland, Vancouver, or Victoria stations to be considered dx's. SOME Victoria radio is a regular for me, ditto for Portland, and Vancouver channels are tropo.

Where do you often test the radio dial to hear CKZZ? I have not been able to hear them since KGY FM stated up.

Yeah, I don't consider the regular Victoria sticks (CKKQ, CIOC, CBU-FM-1 and to a lesser extent CHTT) to be DX signals as those are all regulars, but CHBE and CFUV are a little harder so I consider those DX signals.
