96.7 The Road is moving to 104.9 sometime this week. Haven't heard when. The new site looks like it'll be http://www.1049rocks.com
So what are they doing with the 96.7 frequency?
There is no website there but the domain name is currently registered and has been since 2011.Just for kicks, I found that the www.1049theroad.com is available.

It looks like 96.7 is just going to go silent.
The purpose for 104.9 is to make a better package sell for USC athletics and also push down WROQ to help CC's country stations. WROQ used to be a very solid performer that could hit the top 5, although that isn't really the case anymore and hasn't been for a while. It's there as a flanker and for sales purposes more than it is for any kind of performance on its own.Well, the next quarter or two should be interesting. With both The Road's move and Earth getting a second signal, Classic Rock 101.1 stands to lose the most IMO, with Chuck also in the mix.
Chuck and Earth have a different mix, but all four stations largely have the same target demo. I don't think they'll all survive.
As for straight classic rock, it still baffles me as to why the market even needed a second station. Rock 101 has lost a lot of it's shares over the years. Even in the mid-90s, it was still battling with the country stations and JAMZ for the top spots. This can only further chip away at its' ratings. Entercom will need to freshen up its playlist and maybe open it up more if they don't want to drop further. The Road could never top 101 due to signal strength, but together with Chuck and Earth, further damage is certainly in the cards.
