What format flips do you predict for Seattle?

First and foremost, I think Clear Channel needs to do something with KUBE 93.3 soon. While KUBE does retract some of the listening audience for KQMV and KHTP, KUBE is not doing any favours for their sister station, KBKS, who finished behind KQMV in the May ratings. I'm curious to see what the June ratings depict, but I don't expect KUBE to make any major gain.

The other station I wanted to mention is KHTP. While they experienced great success during their commercial free honeymoon period, it appears as though the hype has subsided. While I do not consider their placement on the radio chart to be bad by any stretch, their ratings are not any better than they were before messing with the 103.7 format at all. I feel as though they were expecting "Hot" to be a major hit in Seattle with ratings soaring high above that of the original "Mountain". However, their success as "Hot" has been modest at best.

Lets see what you guys have to say. I thought this thread would be an interesting precursor to the June ratings (considering that the board has been a tad quiet recently).

If I had my way, I would change 103.7's calls to KNKS and turn it into "KINK.FM Seattle". I would also join forces with 101.9 KINK in Portland to promote tourism and concerts in Portland and NW Oregon. Call up Alpha Broadcasting and see if they want 103.7 Seattle. I think EVERYONE would love "KINK.FM Seattle."

I would LOVE that (not like anyone on this board is surprised, because I often mention my taste of AAA music often). I actually think that KINK is a better radio station than KMTT used to be, and I am positive that it would be a hit in Western Washington. I know many people will disagree, but KHTP is a flop as far as I am concerned. I feel bad for Candy + Potter in the morning, considering they came back to Seattle just to hop aboard the SS Sinking Ship.

I enjoyed listening to them in the 80's.
Not many true AAAs left in the US.

KINK and KFOG are prime examples of how AAA radio should be done. CKPK 102.7 in Vancouver B.C. is an example of how it should not be done.

Even though you would expect CKPK to have a playlist enriched by the large selection of great cancon AAA music, they lack many tracks that I hear all of the time on KINK. Not only bad, but borderline laughable.

KMTT didn't come on until 1991. Were you referring to KINK or KEZX?

KJR-FM will flip to an AC with Robin and Maynard in the morning and the kickoff song will be Kokomo.

Fixed.

None...Seattle radio station managers and owners are completely out of ideas...except for making another CHR copy/clone format and calling it AC or country. Something has to happen...soon. I'm in a prime demo, and find that there's nothing to listen to in Seattle...what gives?

Waiting for the next buyer...LN is correct in that ideas have run their course. It the olden days it was 'let's compete against the other station' with promotion. Now without a personality who is absolutely fascinating, as Tom Leykis would say , there are no new ideas, or normal. Just owners hoping someone will buy out the license as stations have declined in value since 2007, while the stock market went the other way. There is a commonality there.

If I recall, we are pretty close in age. I completely agree; the only radio stations that I [occasionally] tune into in the Seattle area are KZOK and KVI. If you count stations that are close by, I also enjoy KKXA and KGY at times.

One philosophy in modern radio that I strongly dislike is the idea of a "challenger". So what if you only have one station doing something unique, why does another radio corporation feel the need to ruin the potentially unique programming on the original station by introducing a bland take on the same thing?

An example of this principle is KYNW. The station doesn't serve a purpose; its just serves as a modest detraction from KPLZ and KRWM. It seems to me like it would be logical to throw something unique on that signal and see what happens.

I doubt you'll like KGY soon. The Pope just made a deal with Satan to buy it. Anyone want monotone, repetitive rosary prayers? Ugh!

I hate to say I told ya so, but I said they had to sell before it bled to death. Hispanic and religious seem to be the new players in single station sell-offs.

(FLIPPING THROUGH THE UNLISTENABLE FM BAND OF 2019, AND THROUGH THE LOCAL FIRST ADJACENT CHANNEL SQWAK.....)

"The Hour of Guilt.....Monday afternoons at 3.....KZOK, Today's Conservative Christian Classic Talk 102.5...."

"You're listening to Star 101.5, STAR 101.5.... All Katy Perry ALL the time"

Or, a better idea, how about "Positive, Encouraging, Today's Alternative, K-AirCSNEffectLove1"! We can merge K-LOVE with everyone else in the Christian business...
