"Live" may be owned by ABC syndication, but it airs on plenty of non-ABC stations across the country.
That's true but many non-ABC owned stations, including ABC, NBC and Fox affiliates, would likely be fine airing the show at a different time, say 11am. Are there any CBS affiliates that carry the show? That could be a conflict with The Price is Right, but the show could move to another affiliate in that market.
WBAL (NBC) in Baltimore airs the show at 10am, and ABC is fine with that arrangement (permitting Hearst the rights to the show over Scripps WMAR), even though Baltimore viewers haven't been able to participate in the live phone in aspects with the show for years.
It still remains a very strong show that WBAL wants to keep it even if it runs at 10 (and pre-empts the last hour of Today), i.e. Kelly pre-empting Kathie Lee.
I think ABC was pleased that while there was doubt Kelly might not be able to carry the show without Regis, she has been or maybe the show's format is what does it. Kelly outlasted Katie and there was likely lower expectation for Kelly and high expectation for Katie to be around in their daytime years out.
Anyways, if The View doesn't perform well this next season, I don't see it a bad idea for ABC to cut it, GMA expanding one hour, and Live with Kelly and Michael possibly airing at 11am. This would also allow Chicago and Central Time Zone to participate in the live aspects of the show as it would air at 10am Central most likely there, and Windy City Live is already running at 11am in Chicago.
The 3pm hour is still another problem. I don't see Live with Kelly and Michael working in the afternoon. Maybe ABC will have another talk personality by then, or the major O&Os could try to get 'The Doctors', but they'd be dependent on CBS for another show, so it'd be Rachael Ray, The Doctors and Jeopardy/Wheel.
