Financial Exchange greatly expands

5 new stations, etc.
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BwjiSuzCUAAgpxR.jpg:large

Still on WRKO. Starting today, WHYN Holyoke, WELI New Haven, WHYN Holyoke
From 6/29:
Worc. affiliate will switch from WCRN to WTAG. WQSO Portsmouth NH replaces WTSN.
Also in Manchester and New London NH (WNTK, also serving parts of VT), Prov RI etc.

Quite possible that these folks might be producing Howie's show, to be syndicated by Global Media,
but not sure. Barry Armstrong was on with Howie at the end of his show today.

Wonder if Howie winds up on these same stations...(tho the CCs have Hannity--maybe delayed?),
Worc., Holyoke, New Haven, Providence,Manchester, Portsmouth, Upper Valley, Plymouth MA...and poss RKO

Don't know about New Haven. Several years back (more than 10. Maybe 15) when they were still primarily a Big Band/Adult Standards WATR 1320 in Waterbury carried Howie. They dropped the show because it was "too Boston-Centric".

yup though upper valley of NH/VT has no problem, billing him as Boston's bad boy and playing Shipping up to Boston in promos. All we Boston guys
vacationing at Lake Sunapee..
Would CC work a deal to have Howie run on 1200 (and 94.5 HD2 as BRW says) as part of Bloomberg...4 hrs of HC tho not best signal

Don't understand the move from WCRN to WTAG in Worcester. If WTAG does what the other CC stations do that has picked it up (WHJJ, WHYN) and run it on delay. Why would you take it off the station that runs it live to a delayed broadcast?

I put WHYN down twice on first post. I meant WGIR Manchester. Not sure of thinking w Worc station.
Fin Ex seems to be dealing with Clear Channel in many cases, just like WUFC Boston manages to clear Beck, Hannity, Mohr and JT from Premiere talk
and Premiere/Fox Sports.
If Fin Ex indeed is helping to synd Howie you could have likes of GIR, TAG, HJJ doing Howie live then Fin Ex and Hannity delayed.
When CC had 1200 as cons talk, Severin took pm drive then delayed Hannity.

WRKO does well into southern NH but if RKO didn't want him they could put Howie on 1200 with GIR covering southern NH.
Or even Howie on 1510 w Hannity delayed or not at all. Howie has been mentioning iHeart lately, necessary because he's on WHYN etc
but if CC is a part of this deal... (some folks could get non CC station streams like WNTK)

Int. situation in Pitt, where former WPGB duo Quinn and Rose were offered chance to be on Frank Iorio's WJAS (AM station that picked up
CC shows when WPGB went country) but wanted to set up their own stream and charge money for listeners to tune in. Clear Channel, who'd
set up WJAS with the shows, didn't want hosts to set up a rival stream where it would be pay-to-listen and Iorio prob also not fond of it.
Thus no deal.

Howie on his show today, mentioning Barry
Armstrong.."who we're gonna be sharing space
with soon". Howie in charge of his show
doing it from Fin Ex's Needham (I think) studios
not RKO's " Marconi Museum".

Perfectly valid question re what also seems to me to be a stupid move on somebody's part. Barry and Kim's offering is a quality product since they keep it current and up-to-date. I really enjoy listening to both of them and their guests. Running it delayed has to devalue it. From where I listen, Barry hasn't altered his format to the point where his show seems to be "timeless", i.e., can run in any day part. It's a LIVE 10AM till noon show and should be aired as such.

Then, again, if the stations that are airing TFE on a delayed basis are Clear Channel, well, then, forget about anything reasonable and sensible.

You like listening to infomercials?

While Barry may indeed buy the time for his show, he doesn't necessarily push only the products his firm specializes in. Agreed, most of the commercials aired are financial in nature, but they're hardly dominated by Barry or his firm. Please do not put Barry in the same category as the hucksters that do infomercial broadcasts weekends on most US talk stations.

I know neither Barry nor Kim either professionally or personally. I'm not in the financial industry, nor is that my area of expertise. I just think those two do a nice job with news from the world of business and finance, with a bit of pop culture and humor to go with it.

Can I put him in the same category as those weekend "financial shows" on WRKO and WBZ?

Whenever a station puts on a "paid program"...I know they have put aside getting audience....for immediate financial gain. They have decided that the number of listeners they have is not important. I interpret that as them not caring about me...but caring about getting a dollar into the register.

Do they have their place? Sure. If the History Channel wants to sell a few hours overnight to Time Life to sell history books, thats fine with me.

But the purpose of the Financial exchange is to get (paying)customers into the door of his agency, no? ANd get enough of them to pay for the time (at the station) and cover his time/efforts.

Good enough.

While I do not ever listen to any of those shows (Rubino and Lang, Ric Edelman, Bill Kelly), I would venture to say no, Barry's show is not in the same category. His program can be driven by current events (e.g., the Market Basket saga), as well as tidbits on stock purchases, economic analysis from Larry Kudlow, the latest from Apple or Samsung, etc. Hardly "plugs" for his own firm.

Jim Polito just had Barry Armstrong on his show promoting that the Financial Exchange starts next Monday 9/29 on WTAG. It will run from 11 a.m. - Noon & 9 - 10 p.m. Currently Glenn Beck is on until Noon so it looks like they are dropping the 3rd hour. If they were dropping the show entirely, I'm sure they would be carrying Barry's show starting at 10.

So that leaves cross-town rival WCRN with a hole in their morning schedule. More infomercials? Syndicated?

I sure hope Barry et al are not being set up for failure. WCRN has quite a reach with its 50,000-watt signal. Can't say the same for 'TAG.
