I heard from a friend in the area that 1320 WENN has been off the air for a few days, and that prior to going off, it was dead air for 'weeks'. Call me crazy (everyone else does) but shouldn't the translator it's feeding also be off if the parent ceases broadcasting for any reason? As far as I know, "Y'all FM" W271BN has continued on, unencumbered by the rules. I kind of expect a shady small town operator who thinks he knows what's what to pull this sort of shenanigans, but a big broadcasting company like Summit ought to know better.
Since they should know better, I'm wondering if they quietly swapped the feed of W271BN from the AM to an HD subchannel. I was hoping someone in the B'ham area (that's "Birmingham" for those you from out of town and living under a rock) could do a bandscan and see if that's what happened.
Of course with the state of AM these days, it really shouldn't surprise me even when someone who should know better neglects the rules and a station this bad.
