Ktht 97.1 hd2??

Discovered this morning 97.1 was multicasting. Pressed the HD2 button to find a Zone-like format running. Playing alternative rock from the 90s and 2000s BUT the liners are saying "The Big 80's on 106-9 HD2". That's wrong. Flipped over to 106-9 HD2 to find their usual program. Obviously a mix up on the liners but I must say I was enjoying the music. Hopefully it's here to stay

Pretty good - I heard them all the way to College Station, along with the 106.9 HD2. I guess the similarity in tower site gives them the same range. KNDE 95.1 HD-2 is excellent, they made it to 290 before cutting out. KRBE HD makes it to the Grimes county line on highway 6, same as most Missouri City signals.

Isn't that what KHPT-HD 2 was called before it gave way to "The Point"?

Where's John Davis? He'll give you the straightforward version of what's happening here. Probably something as simple as a test of the equipment for KTHT HD, since it never had that before. Got to air something while testing, and it's surely not going to be whatever they actually launch on 97-1.2 being used to test with.

Yes KHPT-HD2 was Pat FM until The Point moved there (it's a slightly better version now). Actually KTHT has been transmitting a digital signal for several years now, even had KKBQ on the HD2 for a while up until a year or so ago. I do remember they had turned it off for a while but when it came back it was only the HD1.

And the answer is, I don't know what's up with that HD2. I do know that depending upon which member of the engineering staff is testing stuff they like to pick songs either from the old Pat library or from the Oldies library, but other than that I have no idea why it's on. We just switched to a new on air playout system, so it could just be running as a place to experiment.

I think I said this before, but Cox really should use their HD2 signals here in San Antonio. We have only a couple HD signals on now and most are just being used to feed FM translators. Only one out of 4 or 5 that Cox has on is KONO HD2 and that rebroadcasts sports from 860 AM. HD radio isn't really worth much down here, unless you can find one with a good analog receiver.

All I'm trying to say is, if the HD2 technology is installed, why not use it? They could get KKYX or a Texas music format on Y100.3 HD2, and put an Alt format on KISS's HD2. Just some ideas.

Well it gives those of us who don't like country a reason to tune to 97.1. Maybe - you should actually consider doing that re-broadcast of KEGL - you would definitely drive the sale of a lot of HD radios from grateful rock fans!!!!

I'm confident Cox won't be rebroadcasting a Clear Channel *ahem* Iheart Media station. The same format of KEGL is already on KTBZ-HD2 and with less commercials.

Goes to show you how much I follow the world of HD radio, djrage, lol. Didn't even know it existed on 97-1 before. That's kind of redundant, no? Isn't KKBQ's HD 3 Country Legends? Then KTHT's .2 was 93Q? I guess so folks up in Coldspring and Livingston could hear 93Q with an HD receiver? Weird.

I knew you shouldn't have mentioned the one time idea of simulcasting KEGL with KKTL back then, CW. You've got Bruce all in a frenzy now, lol. I'm with ya, Bruce. While I love me some classic country, I'd have much rather seen The Dallas Eagle simulcast down here, than to have ever been subjected to that God awful "Hot" format that was on 97-1.

Of course, that would've been when CC still owned it, so we'd have lost the northern simulcast of "The Buzz", if that had occurred. How many would have been screaming bloody murder had Clear Channel pulled that trigger?

There was that awful "Sunny" format on 97.1 for a while up there. It did NOT catch on with former rock listeners, to say the least.

I forgot about that. 107-5 was on a simulcast once before on 97.1 back in the 90s with The Buzz. Then continued it when it became KLDE after the CC/Cox swap in 2000. That frequency has always needed a northern signal to get any kind of real coverage.

Yep, it simulcasted The Buzz until the big switch to 94-5. Then it simulcasted KLDE once that was moved to 107-5. Then it broke off and became "Hot 97-1", and then to its current incarnation as "Country Legends". To me, it was a little odd that when 107-5 took on a simulcast partner again, it was 106-9 and not 97-1.

Iassume it would've been more trouble than Cox felt it was worth to move Legends to 106-9 and simulcast The Eagle on 97-1, reuniting the two signals back together. Maybe they just liked the idea of having the simulcasted Eagle side by side on the dial.

Either way, mission accomplished, the competition is gone and Cox is the only full powered classic rocker on the dial.

It makes more sense to have it this way. It's easier for the listener and it keeps The Eagle on one end of the dial
