Fox targets Tribune in Seattle

If Fox were to go to KIRO and CBS to KSTW, where will the CW end up at? KCPQ? KONG? KZJO with MNTV moving to KCPQ?

Didn't KIRO switch from CBS to UPN and KSTW pick up CBS at one time? As I recall, that arrangement didn't last very long; after about two years KIRO went back to CBS. If there's going to be another switch in Seattle, a KIRO/KCPQ one sounds better. In the event (and I'm just brainstorming here) that KSTW did become a CBS o&o, I hope the Eye Network would put more money into it than it has WWJ Detroit.

I'd be more worried if Fox decides to go with another station other than KIRO or KCPQ: KOMO. That would be a game-changer since Sinclair (KOMO's owners) also have a portfolio of Fox stations in its roster.

I agree because KCPQ has a sister station in KZJO and they can move the 10pm newscast and the 7-9am portion of the morning newscast to KZJO, BOOM! You got CBS 13 News on JoeTV.

Exactly you can essently programming sporting events that the CW won't allow as part of the affiliation agreement between WGN and The CW easier said than done

Well does KCPQ have much value without Fox? KRON was valuable too, but not so much without its NBC affiliation. WPWR was a decent independent, till it was bought by FOX and became a dumping ground. I don't think WGN would do much better of a job.

The "Q-13" name goes all the way back to KCPQ's relaunch as a commercial independent station on November 4, 1980. The KCPQ call letters go back even further, to January of 1976, when channel 13 came back on the air as a public TV station owned by the Clover Park School District in Lakewood (suburban Tacoma) -- any guesses what the "CP" in the call letters stand for!

Fox is only trading KCPQ with WPWR. I think Tribune is still keeping KZJO.

Why not change KJZO Joe-tv back to TV 22 KTZZ? Many people in the puget sound area still call this station TV22.

It's all about the ad dollars from the NFL broadcasts. If Fox owns the station, they keep the ad bucks. Money talks, BS walks.

Same reason they went after KTVU-Oakland/SF.

Both markets are NFC markets and both are home to popular teams (and super bowl contenders) and Fox has been very clear they want O&Os in NFC markets.

And with KTVU, Fox didn't have the market upheaval of a network shuffle like NBC did. Has NBC 3/11/KNTV reached the market equality with the other stations?

They have to know they'll be pouring a lot of money into whatever other station they'd choose in Seattle, whether it's an O&O or an affiliate.

Yes, channel 13 carried daytime instructional programming during it's time as a public TV station. Clover Park had long been the major purveyor of instructional programs for the South Sound via it's original station, KPEC-TV channel 56, and moved those programs over to KCPQ when they relaunched channel 13 as a public station in January of 1976. I believe that the instructional programming ended after the 1978/79 school year -- with uncertainty surrounding the sale of the station, they did not bother to restart the instructional shows in September 1979 for the 1979/80 school year.

Looking through tonight's paperwork, KBCB in Bellingham, WA is being sold to (get ready y'all) FOX!!!! for $10M. The station is also letting Fox operate it under an LMA, until the sale closes.

First of all, the station's coverage area goes further north so it doesn't reach Seattle proper, but it does reach to the southern portions of British Columbia (reaches Vancover proper).

But there's some unanswered questions. Why would they want a TV station that doesn't reach Seattle proper (unless they want to go for cable coverage)? Are they're going to make that station a possible MYNet channel and possibly place a repeater for Fox with it? Or do they want to make this the new Fox station (which I would think it would be extremely unbelievable). I would still think, Fox needs to have at least one of the stations in the Seattle proper to go with KBCB, whether its KCPQ or not.

But it is very clear that Fox wants to make its mark in Seahawks territory.

KBCB could become a relayer of KCPQ for Vancouver. Maybe air local Bellingham inserts in the newscasts. "Q13/Q24 Fox"...
