1240 KGY is now KBUP

I guess no one caught this change. It's a shame that another historic three letter call sign has bit the dust. I saw it first on Clay's blog posted on NW Broadcasters. Shame.

Wow.. its hard to believe that its gone. KGY-AM sure has had its ups and downs in the south sound; I just never expected the changes we have seen over the past few months.

K-BUP? (LMAO) Still it's a shame they didn't take the KGY call letters to FM....

96.9 had been KGY-FM until the switch from Classic Rock to Country. They should have kept the KGY-FM call letters, simply for better name recognition.

Hey, at least they didn't move to call letters like KKMI (Kick Me).

Oh gawd. I remember that. From KYYX ("Kicks", KYYX's original '70s branding) to KKMI (Kick Me).....It was a joke back in high school

Yes, KYYO (Supposedly a replacement for "KAYO", but sounds more like "K-Yo-Yo") just doesn't cut it.

However, I still say KHHO should flip to all Christmas ("K-Ho-Ho") C'mon, it's not like anybody listens to 850 or anything.....

K-BUP?......K-BUP???? That's it. I'm e-mailing Pope Francis about this...

If only they could get the real KAYO to part with those letters...

Even worse...the poster had a rock guitarist with a foot sticking way out, so if you just glanced at the poster it appeared to be a Country Station.
And yes....I still have one!!

Later...we (KYYX) ran into issues because people would write "96-KIX" in the diary ---- and Arbitron refused to give us credit because it was ambiguous if listener was reporting 96-KYYX or 95.7-KIX.

K-Bup. That could have been a slogan for a top 40 back in the day.
Or it could be called "K-BURP", when the transmitter burps, it dies.

Its so hard to believe that the old KGY was once a powerhouse in Olympia. I'm sure that most older folks in the Olympia grew up with KGY.

Hey FordRanger797 and anybody else who has ties to Olympia...

New LPFM at 100.3 goes on the air in a week or so in Olympia. OlyRock is 6.3 explosive Watts of Classic Rock Hits from Bush Mountain. Should reach Oly and Tumwater. (Sorry Lacey.)

I'm looking for a couple of people to do weekend voice tracks from the privacy of their own computer. Our weekday guys are staying with us.

No music intros/outros. Voice tracks would be uploaded via MP3 to our FTP server. Mostly a chance to talk to Olympia for 8 shots a day, about 20-90 seconds each. We want friendly, real people who have something to say.

There's no pay. Hey, this is LPFM. But it's a good training ground for those who want to do it for a real audience. Or if you're 'on the beach' and just miss doing it, that works too.

Just send me an audio file of you talking about things that would interest other people. Like when you're talking to a friend, a spouse, a parent, the dog. But it has to be interesting. Funny is good, weird is fine. No celebrity crap, I want real stuff about real people being strange, or strange people being real. Just be INTERESTING! I want cuts that people will sit and listen to all the way to the end just because they want to know how it turns out.

We hope to buld this into a commercial venture by summertime. But for now, it's just for yucks and experience points.

And yeah, we've done this before. We're doing it right now on KZFL Glenoma. Now it's Olympia's turn.

Plese mail me with audition files or questions.

I'm intrigued. Can you PM me some of the details?

Me too, though I'll need to invest in a headset mic, especially for down here where my room echos so much. That really wouldn't sound good over the air, that weekend jock that sounds like he's in an echoy room talking on a laptop microphone.

For Voice of Vashon we use Station playlist and the remote Voice tracker option to allow our announcers to work from home or any where the lap top allow them. We tested a few USB mics and the Blue Yeti mic won hands down. You can get one for under $120. Works great for remote voice tracking, very pleasant sounding mic.

Now if only I could get a voxpro or shortcut for home use ;)

K-BUP???

It's still just not sinking in....

K-BUP???

What do you mean not sinking in.
K-Bup
K-Bup
It sounds like something sinking. Just imagine the air bubbles as it sinks in.

Fordranger. Do some googling and Binging for cart machine software. There are some neat free products out there. I just don't have the links at hand. It's a fun search. I'm never board when I do those kinds of searches.

K-Bup
K-Bup
I'm getting that sinking feeling

I got K-BUP last night from Ya-Kima, WA! Mention of sister station in Kodiak, AK made it through briefly, also heard KSUE-Susanville CA in the jumble. So now we know the biggest religious powerhouse in Olympia is "Bupping" its way over the mountains with 1000W of big power!
