WMCA Promo-Format Change

One more thing about running that promo:

I wonder if it occur to management how upset loyal listeners might feel when they hear, "Beginning MONDAY, JANUARY 19th, WMCA, NEW YORK's Christian Talk, will be no more!"

I'm sure the religious programming is an important part of many core listeners' lives. The importance of radio to listeners of other formats shouldn't be underestimated either. I don't think today's management realizes the impact the medium can have on people's lives and behavior. It's why radio advertising works. To me this kind of stunting shows just how little regard management has for the people who, in the final analysis, make the revenue possible.

If the station were about to change format, that would be one thing. But what's the point in perpetrating a cruel joke?

Obviously you can't let empathy for the audience dictate programming decisions -- there's a business to run -- but it's not very difficult to create the perception that somebody actually cares about the listener.

and yet they had a great opportunity to hire me to do production, , but they said i was too old to be piscopo's "intern"........the truth has to come out publicly

By your attitude here, I'd say they dodged a bullet. They don't owe you a job.

Everyone here (those of us who work in radio) has been turned down by dozens, if not hundreds of stations. We don't badmouth them for it.

Ravens.....age discrimination is wrong.....they know its true.......they hired 3 very very young interns with no experience.....Maybe I just wanted to see if i could work for Piscopo...but never had a chance even to talk about it

So much for equal opportunity and christian behavior.

I'd hire a young intern with a good attitude that I can mold into the kind of producer that I want any day over a bitter old jock that publicly bashes people who don't hire him. Interns are SUPPOSED to be young. The more you air your dirty laundry here, the more you prove Salem right. It's unprofessional.

And therein lies the problem in America...openly violating age discrimination laws...and common sense. Telling smart people to get lost is unprofessional.

And who is bashing salem? Telling the truth is not bashing or badmouthing anyone. There is a legal issue here can a company place an ad in a publication, state the PAY and then violate age discrimination laws by calling it an intern job?

"...Salem doesn't even subscribe to Nielson (formerly Arbitron) unless it also owns an Christian AC FM station in that market..." Where did you get this information? It isn't true. DC doesn't have a music station, yet they subscribe.

I've explained this before. They were hiring interns. Interns are hired to learn how the business works. You don't hire experienced people of any age to be interns. This isn't age discrimination. You weren't suited for the job. Period. Not to mention you admitted yourself that you missed the hiring deadline. You can't even follow basic directions. No competent station owner would hire you, even if you were 19 years old.

Radio companies have been skirting the legal line on interns forever. There isn't some big conspiracy to discriminate against you because you're old.

I'm trying to help you here. If you really do want to work in this business again, you need to fix your attitude. No one owes you anything.

Not to mention you admitted yourself that you missed the hiring deadline.............wrong there was no deadline their lawyer made that up out of thin air......they have to try and cover their azz somehow....

It really is a legal question if you pay people does equal opportunity rules apply........trying to claim its an intern job is still lying and violating EEOC. the exception is no pay and must get school credit.

But once you publically announce a paying job...you cannot tell older or smart people to get lost. that is illegal..........at least they could have booolsheeted me and interviewed me so they can claim on their EEOC form they they really did interview an older and qualified person

Overqualified really means we want to hire a Moron.......

No ravens is all about severe corporate stupidity.....Put a box of rocks 22 year old looking at resumes to eliminate anyone smart.

Don't ask any questions like maybe i can afford to work for very low pay for a few months because I want to do it. after all it is Joe Piscopo and Maybe i found something i really liked to do.

I was really offended by this level of nasty, and rudeness and felt like salem gave me the middle finger just for applying.

A quote from the LA board on a different matter might be in order here:

And on page 1 of the book "How not to burn bridges at your last job" When getting fired from a job ...just say to those pesky inquiring minds that ask you what happened..

"I am leaving to pursue other professional interests. I have learned so much from xyz company and consider everyone still there family." (even though your stuff has been cleared off your desk and handed to you in a cardboard box with your last day being December 1st .. just in time for Christmas.)

Salem radio is not worth talking about or working for.
Except to say its very sad that a useless company like Salem
'owns legendary WMCA & WFIL, (& other stations),

Maybe salem radio is useless but i really did want to work with joe piscopo....call me stupid but it would have looked good on my resume, instead some 22 years old who dont even know or care who he is have it on theirs.
